Tuesday - January 7, 2003 (4:08pm) - Macdonald-Kelce Library
Skye sat behind the reference desk, her feet propped up on the counter and her eyes glued to her copy of The Great Gatsby. Turning through the pages, she jumped from one part of the book to another, barely stopping on one page long enough to comprehend what was written before going on to another.
Nearly falling out of her chair when someone snuck up behind her and poked her in the ribs, she spun around to find a fair-haired boy leaning up against the wall behind her, grinning.
�Jeez, Pete, you scared the hell out of me,� Skye reprimanded, throwing her book at him, which he caught easily.
�Gatsby? Again? How many times have you read this book since I�ve known you?� he asked, flipping through the chapters.
�Not reading it. Just the best parts. I�m bored out of my mind.�
Pete glanced around the still library and shook his head. �Tell me again why they have us working before classes even start again.�
She shrugged and took her book back before Pete grabbed a chair and pulled it behind the desk, sitting down backwards in it. �It�s not like anyone actually uses the library before school starts. Except for you, but then again, you�re weird.�
Skye rolled her eyes. �Thanks.�
He laughed and leaned over her to grab a stack of papers off of the desk. �You�re welcome. Are the computers back up yet?�
Nodding, she replied, �But don�t use them to look at porn again.�
�That wasn�t me!� he exclaimed, slapping at her with the papers while she laughed.
�Shhhh! It�s a library.�
The two friends laughed until their boss walked in and they had to regain their composure.
�If no one is in here, you can close up at five,� the graying woman informed them, silently reprimanding them with her eyes for their noise.
�Yes, ma�am,� they replied in unison before Mrs. Graham left them to their own devices.
Leaning towards Skye, Pete kept his voice low incase their boss had stopped to eavesdrop on them like she�d been known to do. �Rumor has it Robby got himself a roommate finally.�
She nodded. �Yeah, he seems nice enough.�
�You�ve met him already?�
�Not really. I ran into him before work,� she replied, averting her eyes from him.
�Literally?� he asked, snickering when she turned bright red.
�Yes.�
�You make the best first impressions, Skye.�
Glaring at him jokingly for a moment, she pouted. �It was embarrassing. He�s really cute.�
Pete�s eyebrows rose in interest. �Could it be? Masterson slightly interested in a guy? What about her books?!�
Rolling her eyes, Skye went back to her book in hopes to suppress the blush that threatened to cover her face again. �I just said he was attractive. That doesn�t mean anything.�
Pete shook his head sadly. �You know it wouldn�t be bad for you to be interested in someone, Skye.�
She rolled her eyes. �I don�t have enough time between work and classes and tutoring and everything else to date anyone, but find me someone good enough and I�ll make an effort.�
Rubbing his chin thoughtfully, Pete said in clarification, �Is that a challenge?�
Ignoring the plotting tone in his voice, Skye shrugged. �Whatever.�

January 7, 2003 (21:58est) - �I know I�m not the one you thought you knew back in high school��
Today was oddly interesting in a boring way, which probably makes no sense to any one but me.
I woke up, finished my article for the site, and somehow got tied up in a brief three game match of old-school Mortal Combat with Rob before he had to go meet up with his new roommate. Kasey�s been paling around with Megan, so I had the room to myself for most of the afternoon.
Then I started flipping through Gatsby -pauses as everyone says �again?!�- and was going to lounge around downstairs until work. Somewhere on my way to the stairs, I found myself on the floor instead of on my feet like I thought I�d been. When I looked up, there was Rob and his new roommate (Nick was it?). I guess I ran into the new one while I read about Daisy and Gatsby, et al. He seemed embarrassed even though it was completely my fault. After glancing at Rob�s watch, I realized it was a lot later than I�d thought, so I had to go to the library before really getting to talk to the two of them. -shrugs- Next time, maybe. Hopefully it won�t involve me being thrown into the floor.
Work was boring. I think Pete is thinking about plotting something that may or may not cause an extreme amount of stress or embarrassment, but there�s not much I can do about it now.
Went to dinner with Pete, Alec, and Shane. Talked about baseball as usual. It should be an interesting season.
Now for emails and bed.

how is Shane doing? i should go by and see him.
as for Nick, i think the two of you would like each other. he was asking about you off and on all night. your clumsy two-minute meeting seemed to intrigue him.

No, don�t talk to him. I don�t need to worry any more about this. He�s freakin� me out.
Shane is doing better. I was actually surprised he is doing as well as he is. In good spirits despite it all. He�s in his dorm again, so you can go see him whenever.
He was asking about me? About what? He probably wants to know why I�m a complete moron. That�s about all I can think would intrigue him. -feels like an idiot-
