Azazeal
and the Nephelim
According to David Tyrel, headmaster of Medenham, Azazeal is the leader of the Nephelim. These were a group of fallen angels, around 200 of them in fact, who fell in love with mortal women, and it is suggested that they taught them witchcraft. Angry, God expelled them from heaven, and according to David, hurled them into the abyss.

The official Hex website cites a couple of Bible quotes than can help you here, I looked up
2 Peter 2 in my NIV, and here's what I found...verse 14 is the one official quoted, so I've put it here, but when you read the whole passage I thought it was talking about men who had strayed, rather than angels...not sure there, but verse 4 was also interesting in this context...

Verse 4...
"For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgement;"

Verse 14..."With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed - an accursed brood!"

By far the best passage however comes from
Genesis, Chapter 6, v 1-4

"When men began to increase in number on the earth and daugters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, "My spirit will not contend with man for ever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days - and also afterwards - when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the hereos of old, men of renown."

So lets move on to what we've learned in the show so far. Azazeal appears most of the time in human form, as do other Nephalim it would seem...the telltail sign being their bloodshot eyes apparantly, that's how Cassie was able to spot one in a club, and stop him from having his wicked way with a girl there. Azazeal needed a willing sacrifice to regain his strength...and he also made a comment about Rachel McBain, "she gave me bodily form, I gave her bodily bliss." Bodily form? Not exactly sure in what he means just yet, but hopefully this will develop as Cassie gets a better understanding of them.
