| Thelma, Peggy and Ghostly Phenomena |
| �Have you any idea how frustrating it is being a lesbian ghost?� - Thelma, Episode Two Thelma gave her life to stop Azazeal killing Cassie at the end of the first episode. It wasn't long however before she was mocking people at her own funeral. She appears to Cassie as some sort of ghost, exactly what the nature of her ghostiness is we don't really know yet! Firstly it seems only Cassie can see her. Whether this is Thelma's doing, or because Cassie is somewhat magically inclined, remains to be seen. I'd guess its Cassie's abilities that make it possible, as Thelma is not able to hide from Cassie, which presumably she would if she could while spying on her and Troy. There's also some inconsistencies in whether she's tangible or not...we see Thelma eating crisps all the time (now that she won't put on weight, she sees no reason not to eat) but where do they go? It is confirmed in the third episode that she can taste what she's eating...Does she digest them as a human would? We know they're real crisps as we see her using the snack machine...she seems perfectly capable of touching anything...but then she makes a comment to Cassie about not being able to grope her...maybe that was just ghostly banter, who knows? Ghost Thelma also has the abilities to enter peoples dreams. Much like Isabel on Roswell, she can make herself a part of that dream without the other person knowing that she's not just part of their subconscious... am I making sense? Once dead, Thelma also seems to be able to see what Cassie sees, for example when young Esther McBain appears to Cassie in the corridor, Thelma can see her too. Whether there is a higher purpose to Thelma being back, or whatever, remains to be seen. Our other promiant ghost, who we meet in the penultimate episode, is Peggy, who's father used to own Medenham...she herself died of flu in 1923, she's an Egyptologist too. It seems Thelma is capable of touching her...and fact that may lead somewhere down the road... The touching thing just gets more confusing throughout the series...at the moment we're working on the theory that she can touch anything except for living people...but if that changes I'll let you know! Thelma and Peggy are present in this plane of excistence due to Azazeal...him being around is messing with the natural order of things, as as in Ancient Egypt when he impregnated the Pharoah's daughter, he presence is causing the dead to mix with the living. If Cassie's baby had died, Thelma and Peggy would have ceased to be. Lucky for us it didn't! |
