Dinmael The village lies at the western end of the Dee valley close to the borders of the Snowdonia National Park and adjacent the A5 which is the historic route into North Wales. Built by Thomas Telford in the early 19th Century following the ancient Roman road known as Watling Street it retains many of the original features of Telford's road and has been recognised as an Historic Route. History Heulfre is approximately 100 years old built by Thomas Thomas. He built many other houses in Dinmael and the Chapel vestry. He was also a leader in the Tithe Wars when farmers held protests against the Tithe payments to the Church. On one occassion a baliff named Ap Mwrog was caught and held head down over the Pont-y-Glyn bridge until he signed on paper that he would never come back to this district again. He was sent to Corwen with his coat turned inside out to make him look stupid. Relatives of Thomas Thomas still reside in the area. |
