| Being Confidence and Assertive | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Featured Dilemma: | |||||||||||||||||||||
| I am told I need more confidence and should be more assertive |
|||||||||||||||||||||
| Dear Petra, You are saying that you are confident in some situations and not in others. The particular story or context is always important in understanding our problems and the events of our lives. From what you have told me in our other conversations, I see that your new boss expects things from you that no human could achieve. She is vague about these things and if things go wrong, you are blamed. If things go right, you are given no credit. This is unfair. This can easily undermine your confidence slowly over time. I hope you can be clear with your boss and talk with her using good tone of voice and body language. You might try to get clarity from her by negotiating reasonable expectations. Good luck until we talk again! Paul |

| Dear Paul, I have been told at work that I should see you about coaching to gain confidence and so that I can be more assertive. I am very confident when I am dealing with my own staff. However, I am confused recently since the arrival of my new boss. I have lost some confidence. Sincerely, Petra |
