If you know Ovid's "Metamorphoses", one version of this Greek myth has the beautiful princess Myrrha tricked by a jealous Aphrodite into a forbidden relationship resulting in the most scandalous pregnancy. Shamed and sentenced to death by her father, the king, she flees until she is turned, magically, mercifully, into a tree. The living child in her womb is removed from a split in her bark and Adonis is born. This has nothing to do with the this "Metamorphasis" but it's sort of synchronistic and odd.
