Geoemyda spengleri
This species of leaf turtle is known by many names including: Vietnamese leaf turtle, Black Breasted leaf turtle, Indo-Chinese serrated turtle, Scalloped leaf turtle, and Vietnamese wood turtle
~Range) Southern most China and Vietnam.
~Description) This species does not exceed 4.5 in. Their carapace is described as being elongate, flattened, 3 keeled, and posteriorly saw toothed. Color ranges from orange-yellow to reddish orange, to olive. Females are larger with a shorter tail.
~Care) These turtles should be housed is a good to large size enclosure, I would say no less than a 36in x 18in enclosure, with one or more large shallow water dishes for drinking and bathing. These dishes must be changed often as these turtles generally deficate in the water. For a substrate, sphagnum moss or cypress mulch is recommended with a maximum depth if 3.5 in. The substrate should also be misted once to twice daily as these turtles like is very moist and humid.
~Temperature) About room temperature (59-70F) is recommended for these turtles so a heat lamp is normally not necessary. However, a full spectrum light with UVA and UVB should be provided during the day.
~Feeding) These turtles eat a wide variety of food items including:  snails, slugs, earthworms, waxworms, crickets, pinkie mice, and a variety if fruits. Lettuces may also be offered, but less often.
