BIO: When the Red Ribbon army was destroyed by an adolescent Goku, Dr. Gero would not take this loss lightly. He disappeared into seclusion, secretly working on a top-secret project to kill Goku. Of this project, two android warriors were created from a combination of mechanical parts and living beings. The third was a combination of DNA from the strongest fighters in all the universe, good and evil. The result was Cell.

Cell was designed to absorb the other two androids in the set to achieve his full power. And when he did so, he became Perfect Cell. He brought then-unseen destruction to the world in an effort to kill Goku on behalf of Dr. Gero. The climax of his destruction came in the form of his own Tenkaichi Budoukai, a revived martial arts tournament he put on to destroy Goku in a grand spectacle. He accomplished this goal, but in the end, he was killed by Goku's son, Gohan.

As he died, he was sent to Hell. He met Freiza, someone else who was just as resentful towards Goku as he was. After tormenting the denizens of Hell, they escpaed Hell and wound up in a place called the Dark Kingdom, where they met someone else with desires of world domination and/or destruction...

HIS PLACE IN THE MULTIVERSE: Sure, his appearance in chapter 3 is pretty much a sideshow appearance, but I have a lot of respect for Cell as a villain. I find him to be the best DBZ villain other than Freiza, and you can tell that Toriyama would've ended Dragon Ball Z at the end of the Cell saga had he been given the opportunity. See, not only does this guy kill Goku, but Goku doesn't return to Earth for nearly an entire decade after his death. That should tell you something about both Goku and Cell.

I'm using the Perfect version of Cell throughout, because if you've seen the end of the Cell saga, you know that he maintained his "perfect" form after losing #18 and blowing himself up. I also see this as the form where he can do the most while caring the least about anything than total conquest and destruction.
