BIO: The Saiyans - an ancient warrior race known for their brute strength. Their leader was the strongest Saiyan who went by the name of Vegeta, who bore a son named after him. That boy, the prince of all Saiyans, would grow up to become one of the most feared and most powerful warriors in the universe.

Prince Vegeta was one of only four Saiyan males who survived the destruction of their home world at the hands of the tyrannical Freiza. Three of them served under him from that point on, itching for the day when they would become powerful enough to destroy Freiza and avenge their people. The fourth was sent as a baby on a mission to raze a planet, but suffered a bout of amnesia and forgot his mission and raised as a normal boy. Later, Raditz, one of Vegeta's bodyguards, was sent to that planet, Earth, to check up on the Saiyan baby's progress. He learned that the Saiyan in question was now a full-grown adult and had no knowledge of this mission. Raditz would be killed at the hands of the one known as Kakarot...or as he was known on that world, Goku.

Vegeta came to the planet a year later to challenge this Saiyan deserter Kakarot. What he got was the fight of his life that resulted in the death of many of the Earth's strongest warriors and Vegeta's other retainer, Nappa. Broken and embarassed, Vegeta was spared death and allowed to escape, vowing his revenge. Vegeta was ashamed that a Saiyan elite like himself could be defeated by a low-class warrior like Goku.

Eventually, Vegeta found the strength to confront Freiza and avenge the death of his Saiyan people. He was killed in that battle, but resurrected by Goku. He settled on Earth after Freiza's "death" and lived at the Capsule Corporation. Eventually the appearance of the Androids and eventually Cell led the Saiyan prince to the defense of the Earth with this message:

"No one kills Kakarot while I'm around; destiny has reserved that pleasure for me.

HIS PLACE IN THE MULTIVERSE: Vegeta is the first of many "rogues"--people who aren't about to pledge alleigance to one side or another. While Vegeta has declared he will only fight evil to preserve his destined fight to the finish with Goku, others will be content to wait on the sidelines and side with whoever is winning. I tried to retain as much of Vegeta's personality from the anime, particularly the Freiza-saga through Cell-saga. He still remains the Saiyan prince, who is hell-bent on killing Goku in battle and becoming the strongest warrior in the universe. However, he has also shown some "heroic" tendencies, even if they are only another step towards the aforementioned goals.
