| Flaming Frog Cannon Team and Article by Kevingoes This is a team I used to win a three hundred point tournament where there were no Uniques allowed (although I'd play it in a normal three hundred point tournament). I call it the Flaming Frog Cannon. V Abomination V Pyro V Doombot E Shadowcat E Blackcat R Mandroid Armor R Paramedic R Quicksilver The main piece of the team is V Abomination. He has leap/climb and super strength and is a nasty, nasty close combat piece. I usually use Abomination to move out on the board and pick up an object on the first turn and then leap and climb back to a position of relative safety such as the second row of a roof top. (I don't actually have much experience playing this team on inside maps). I try to also position Abomination in such a way that my mandroid armor can fling him into combat in my second turn. If I can't find a safe place to set up or I fear Abomination is likely to be attacked on my first turn I use Pyro to put up a barrier. Otherwise I move Pyro with the Veteran Doombot like I moved Abomination. I typically also move out Quicksilver so I can get him out across the board and tie up/take out my opponents medics later on or tie up some other piece. I might reposition my medic as well. Blackcat, Shadowcat, and Shadowcat's taxi, the Mandroid Armor all remain behind until I need them. Keep in mind that Pyro and Quicksilver are Brotherhood team members meaning that Quicksilver moves for free, as will the Doombot and Blackcat. On my second turn I try to make an attack. I send Shadowcat in with the Mandroid Armor and then use the Mandroid armor's telekinesis to fling Abomination into base combat with an enemy figure, preferably an experienced Black Panther or Taskmaster. I position Blackcat so that she gets line of sight on Abomination because it is really important for this first attack to connect then I push Abomination to attack my target. If I roll leadership I might push the Doombot to have Pyro move in to attack. It's important to keep in mind that because Abomination has leap/climb you can telekinesis him to the side of a building and have him make a close combat attack on someone standing on an edge (like a Black Panther or Batman). Also keep in mind, that if you want to telekinesis Abomination to the edge of a building from the ground, you have move the mandroid armor within nine spaces of the target square (stupid telekinesis rules...). One of the reasons I choose the Mandroid Armor over Jean Grey is because it gives me the Shield team ability. While my opponent's dealing with Abomination I sneak in with Pyro and the Doombot. The Doombot can then copy the Shield team ability or Shadowcat can taxi in the Mandroid Armor next to Pyro. The next thing they know Pyro does an energy explosion on two of my opponent's pieces, usually a taxi and its fare, enhanced by the Shield team ability. (Which does four clicks of damage if the two targets are adjacent to each other). Meanwhile Quicksilver is providing some well needed distraction. Either tying up some of your opponent's pieces or preventing them from healing by basing their medic. One of the best things about this team is that Telekinesis is a great way to also get a piece out of the action. Using telekinesis on a friendly figure does not require a break away roll. When Abomination is in danger you can phase Shadowcat in with Mandroid Armor and fling him out to the medic. If this team has one glaring weakness it's that it doesn't have any Outwit. Black Cat's Probability Control can take the edge off of Super Senses and Impervious but figures with Invulnerability and Toughness are going to soak up some of the damage you will do. It's Achilles heal would have to be the Mandroid Armor. If you lose the Mandroid Armor you also lose a lot of the team's versatility. You lose the Shield team ability, which helps Pyro, and the Telekinesis, which helps Abomination. If you lose the Mandroid Armor you can always have Shadowcat taxi Abomination around and have Pyro fall back on his ranged combat mastery. Fortunately your opponent will have get past Abomination and Pyro to take out the Mandroid Armor. |
