TOTO In Nashville, December 1st 1999
I had met up with some folks that I had met online and we hung around throughout the day. Thanks to some quick thinking from some of the guys, they convinced Steve Lukather to let us stay and watch the sound check before the show.Through some incredible ingenuity, a few "connections", and just plain dumb luck, I managed to get some passes to the after-show party, which I happily shared with my newfound friends. Since most of us in the group got to see the sound check, the show, AND the after-show party and got to meet the band and everything, I have dubbed us "The Lucky Bastards"!.
I received the opportunity of a lifetime on December 1st, 1999. Travelling to Nashville TN on that day I got to see one of my most favorite bands of all time perform live at the Ryman Auditorium (for you history buffs, that's the site of the original Grand Ole Opry). I have been a fan of this fabulous group of musicians since I was seven years old and this was the first time I had ever seen them perform live in person. The show, needless to say was absolutely fabulous! Their performance was tight, the sound in the auditorium was crystal clear and the auditorium was small enough that no matter where you sat, everybody had a great view of the band! Since this was Nashville TN, about 80% of all the people in the audience were either musicians or music connected. I'd say that just about every serious musician in Nashville who didn't have a gig that night was at that show!

Being a guitar player, one of the highlights of the evening was getting to meet Steve Lukather for the first time. Click here to see the look on my face as I marked a major milestone in my life.
