| TEAM Under 9 Colts H/A Away MATCH DATE 22/03/03 OPPONENTS Monkton Youth LEAGUE/CUP League HALF TIME SCORE 0-0 FULL TIME SCORE 0-1 MAN OF THE MATCH Matthew Evans MATCH REPORT Colts Clinch Second Spot There were smiles all round as Herne Bay Harrier Colts under 9s clinched the league runners up place with an away win and double over Monkton Youth. The home team started off much the brighter side, however, man of the match and captain Matthew Evans kept their attack quiet and stifled any chances of Monkton spoiling the Harriers day. Harriers then slowly but surely took control of the play with Tom Wake, Kieran Brett and Jonathan Crisp all having shots saved . Daniel Mantovani and Harry Gilbey under the watchful eye of Evans continued to shut out the now very frustrated Monkton forwards. The score remained 0-0 at half time but with Harriers having much the better of territorial play. The beginning of the second half saw the introduction of Michael Butler and Ben Rogers who had scored the winning goal in their previous encounter against Monkton and linked up and allowed history to repeat itself by scoring the only goal of the game after 10 minutes within the second half . The goal originated from a long clearance kick from Charlie Crane which saw Michael Butler control the ball just inside the opposition half who, with a turn of speed, rounded two players before passing to Wake who shot on the volley which the keeper could only push out to the waiting feet of Rogers who calmly hit the ball into the bottom left side of the net. The celebrations then began with Ben Rogers being mobbed by his all his team mates. After the goal The Colts took full control of the game with Rogers being the thorn in the home teams side by hitting a right foot drive which the home keeper could only push against the post and away for a corner. Billy Harding not wanting to be left out of the action stepped up, took the corner kick which seemed to linger for ever more in the air and landed directly onto the crossbar and continued to roll along the full length of the bar out for a goal kick . The game continued in much of the same vein which the Harrier Colts deservedly won and claiming the title of league runners up with their final game of the season still against Deal Town Rangers Colts.
