US Native Mantids

The most common species of praying mantids native to the U.S. are listed below:


Tenodera aridifolia sinensis - Chinese mantis (pictured male)





Mantis religiosa - European mantis (pictured female in defense posture)




Stagmomantis carolina - Carolina mantis (pictured male)




These mantids can also be found in the U.S. but are not as common as the three species above.

Iris oratoria - Mediterranean mantis




Gonatista grisea - Grizzled mantis




Litaneutria minor - Minor ground mantis




Mantoida maya - Little Yucatan mantis




Oligonicella mexicana - Slim Mexican mantis
