I mean the faith of our founding fathers,not church fathers. They were comprised of Freemasons,Unitarians,Emersonian Transcendentalists,18th century Episcopalians and a small smattering of other mainstreamers. Their God was a generic,pluralistic God,big enough to encompass all the citizens of these United States.Their God was not the sick,wrathful,fundie-facist God who is now being portrayed as the One,True God by the religious right.This MUST be remembered. To this day,the symbol of the Great Pyramid of Giza on the back of our dollars is a Masonic symbol. Our nation's capital buildings are replete with these symbols of this broad,generic God. Our Founders knew of the hysterical,camp-meeting types of "christians",tried to give them leeway in their practices but NEVER EVER intended that "God" to be what was meant when they wrote "One nation under God." Our Constitution is free of fanaticism,a well-thought- out document written by products of the Ages of Enlightenment/Reason.Anything less is facism!!! And that is what the extreme Republicans presently in power are all about! They are an extreme,narrow,fearful retention of notions of camp-followers and Puritans who almost destroyed any possibility of their original colonies ever becoming the great and most dominant nation on earth it now is.Our present government and the moronic 51% of the people who empowered them are NOT Constitutional Americans. They are no better than fundamentalist Islamics.Resist them! Fight them in the press and if need be,on the streets. Wrest our country from these fanatics or destroy it. You have the choice. Use it while you can. Otherwise there will come a time when you will not be able to do so. They will trash our privacy rights and destroy our economic infrastructure so badly that we will be subject to them and persecuted for our "disbeliefs". Fight Now or forget it later. |
