Welcome to the Witch Weekly's column. This corner will be about a
certain topic being discussed about all those important yet
unnoticed stuff in the HP books. Although, some of them will be a
little stupid, but this is just for fun. Due to the fact that I'm still
busy developing this site, I might only do this once every fornight.
The "disturbing, mysterious" person, MARK EVANS
In OotP, we find out that Dudley had beaten up a 10-year-old kid named Mark Evans. We learn nothing else of him during the
entire book, and yet, the one line about him has quite a major significance on the rest of the series. There is no doubt that
he is related to Harry in some way as I'm sure J.K.Rowling will not do something like that without a reason. Naturally, the
progression leads us directly to Petunia, being the only character in the HP series with the last name as Evans. I do think it's
very unlikely that he's Petunia's child because she obviously didn't have him with Vernon, or he'd be living with them and
Petunia doesn't seem like the type of person to cheat on her husband...and if she did, how would she hide a pregnancy from
him as she couldn't have had him before she met Vernon, because he'd be older than Harry and Dudley. So then, with all the
Evans accounted for, it would seem that it's impossible for Mark to be related to Harry, right? Wrong. My guess is we will be
seeing Mark entering Hogwarts next year and then we will learn all about him. Many of you will point out that Harry had to
go live with the Dursleys because they were his "last living relatives." That IS true, but Mark Evans wasn't alive when Harry
had to go live with them, so he couldn't exactly be a living relative, now could he? Using this information, however, you can
rule out totally that Mark is Lily's child, because she was dead before he was born. So, unless Lily can somehow conceive and
give birth to a child from her grave (which I find it something so ridiculous that J.K.Rowling will not write something like that).
So, Lily is definately NOT his mother. So, now that we have established that Lily can't be Mark's mom, we are left wondering
who it is our little mystery man belongs to. Hopefully we'll get this unanswered question in the sixth HP book....
Well, I've laid out all my points. If you have any thoughts or stuff about this fornight or next fornight's subject, do not
hesitate to e-mail me. I hope you enjoyed this fornight's article of "The disturbing person, Mark Evans". I know it's very short
compared to my last article. I hope I'll will do more justice in my next article. "Harry/Neville, stronger/better then meets the
eye??".
