How to Write the History of your Church, School, or Organization
Getting Started
My Chapter Headings:
1. Make a list of jobs to be done and decide who will work on each one.

2.  Start a list of names, addresses phone numbers and email addr. as potential customers and those to be interviewed.

3.  Decide on Chapter Headings--short and "snappy sounding names.

4.  What years will your history  cover?

5.  Make a collection of old clippings, photos, programs, old newsletters, scrapbooks, printed histories etc.

6.  Make a Time Line of  important dates.  Add significant local, national, and international events.

When I wrote the book Saints to the Columbia it took  about 10 years to do the research, interviewing, collecting materials, writing, pasting up pages and many other details for the first edition. which came out in 1992.

If you use a group approach you can shorten the time considerably. by sharing the work.

When I wrote the second edition in 1998 I added two new chapters.  New information is always being found

i
f you would like to see the first edition it is available on microfilm through the Salt Lake Family History Library or one of its local branch libraries.  It is also  located in the Fort Vancouver Regional Library, the Multnomah County Oregon Library, as well as the LDS FH library, Portland Stake, 30th & Harrison Streets and the Clark Co. WA Genealogical Library.
