| This young Hobbit is Meriadoc Brandybuck. Most people just call him Merry. He is most often seen with Pippin Took. They together have a tendancy to cause trouble. Like I've just said, Merry and Pippin are best friends, and spend a good deal of time playing pranks, and talking about food. Merry is one of Frodo's dearest friends, and sets out on the Quest of his own free will. In fact, he goes against the will of Frodo (This part is different in the book than in the movie). Merry travels with the company as far as Amon Hen, where the Fellowship is broken, and he and Pippin are kidnapped by the Uruk-Hai (an Orc/Human hybrid). Merry is eventually separated from even Pippin and, in the end, becomes an esquire to Theoden, King of Rohan. Merry is held in high regard for giving the Witch King a mortal wound which allowed Eowyn (Theoden's niece) to deal the killing blow. Merry later comes under the influence of the Black Breath, a deadly sickness that sends its victim into darkness, and finally, to death. He was healed by Aragorn. In the movies, Merry is played by Dominic Monaghan (see above). I don't know much about him, but he's pretty cool...he does a good job as Merry...I like him. |
