The Welsh Pony

The Welsh pony seemed the obvious choice to start off this breed directory since Myatt is a Welsh Section C. There are four kinds of Welsh Pony, starting with the smallest; the Section A or Welsh Mountain, Section B, Section C and Section D (the Welsh Cob). This article is mainly about the Section C as I am biased towards the beautiful Myatt :) but there are also summaries of the other three sections.

The Welsh Section C originated (funnily enough) in Wales and probably developed (along with the Welsh Cob) from the Mountain pony crossed with horses brought to Wales by the Romans. There is often a visible Arabian influence seen in both the carriage and head of the Welsh pony and they have good stamina and great temperaments. They can come in any colour except piebald and skewbald and up to 13.2hh in height. Both sections C and D are great in harness so of course Myatt decided that he was NOT going to be a driving pony but shows just how versatile the Welsh pony is!

Section A (Welsh Mountain)
Height: Up to 12hh
Colour: Any except piebald and skewbald, often grey

Section B
Height:
Up to 13.2hh
Colour: Any except piebald and skewbald

Section D (Welsh Cob)
Height:
No limit
Colour: Any except piebald and skewbald
