Herbertstown Ladies 1-0 Elton Ladies
Huge credit to our ladies team who won their League Cup final on Thursday August 23rd 2007.

Elton Celtic FC had their pitch in pristine condition for this cup final. The game itself was a very hard fought tussle with some great passages of play in both halves.

It looked with 15 minutes to go as though Elton would take the honours after their centre forward got through one on one but with the ball heading for the roof of the net, goalkeeper Catherine Curtin tipped the ball over the bar to safety.

Right at the death Herbertstown forced a corner and Chris Lyons deep cross caused trouble for the Elton defence and with the ball trickling around, Aisling Moran sent the ball to the net. Elton had only a minute on the clock remaining to pull the goal back, but it proved to be not enough and Herbertstown were crowned the champions.

For Manager Shane Keogh and his players, this was the end of 4 years very hard work. Shane set up the ladies soccer team in 2004 and put in a huge effort along with his players, into training and matches. Last year Herbertstown lost this cup final and one year on they have gone one better. The hard work has paid off. Next year maybe they could go one better and compete for a league title? Who knows.

Aoife O'Keeffe captained the side and Sean Kiely coached the team.
