Grants of Arms
In New Zealand, legal grants of Arms are made by the heraldic officers of Her Majesty The Queen. These are Garter Principal King of Arms, based in London, and the Lord Lyon King of Arms, of Scotland. Grants from the Chief Herald of Canada, while grants from the Crown, are not made to non-Canadian citizens.
New Zealanders may generally also obtain grants of arms from the Chief Herald of Ireland, or the Chief Herald of South Africa, and other Commonwealth heraldic authorities. But as these are not Crown grants they are in no way comparable to the legal status of grants from London, Edinburgh or Ottawa.
