The Readers' club led by their adviser, Mrs. Noemi Visorde had held their annual club activities. This year they planned some activities that encourage the students to read more books. These activities are the Living Gallery and the Story Telling activity. Jean Valjean, O-lan, Wang Lung, Helen of Troy, Rama, Sita, Anne Frank! These are few of the characters that students encountered in their assigned novels in each year level. Through the lengthy description, we are able to give life and use our imagination to every character. However, imagination is not enough because it is difficult to reveal the appearance of characters through descriptions. The USTHS Readers' Club helped the students answer their curiosity about each character in the novel that they are reading. Last January 26-27, the first ever Living gallery was held inside the P. E. room. With the chosen students, they are able to give life to these characters. It was like a museum where the chosen students are dressed according to their character. Each of them posed like a statue for a couple of minutes. It was difficult but their hard work was worthy. It really looked like a wax museum but with real persons. It entertained the students and informed them about the characters that they only read in the novels. The members of the readers' club also held a Story Telling Activity. They choose stories that are suitable for the first year students. Each member of the club had an assigned section to tell a story. They invite the first year students in the 3rd floor lobby where they read to stories for the students. The Living Gallery and the Story Telling Activity are not the only activities of the readers' club. They also have a Book Fair last High School Week. The books that they sell are affordable and helpful for the students. The Readers' Club is an organization that encourages students to read and love books. |
