Hera is Zeus wife and sister. She was raised by Ocean and Tethys, two of the titans. She is the goddess of marriage and childbirth. With Zeus, she has four children; Ares, Eris, Hebe and Hephaestus. Her myth involves Zeus trying unsuccessfully to court her. He eventually turned himself into a cockatoo, and flew to Hera. Hera felt sorry for the poor animal and held it to her chest. Zeus seized the opportunity and returned to his immortal self, then raped Hera. She married him out of shame. Since then, she led many revolts against Zeus. One such time she tied him to a couch and when he became free, Zeus hung her from the sky with golden chains. She wept all night long, and Zeus brought her down and made her promise never to rebel against him. Hera had no choice but to succumb, and never revolted again. Instead, she went against Zeus' ideas a lot, and was able to outwit him. Her animals are the peacock and the cow. She is associated with the city of Argos. Her roman name is Juno.
I took ivillage.com's greek goddess test...and you'll never guess what I scored the most of...here's my highest result...You scored 25% Hera!
If you possess many of Hera's qualities, you tend to find fulfillment in relationships and look on marriage as a permanent union. In marriage, you feel no sense of frustration or resentment, because you are an equal partner with your spouse. You are confident and have no trouble asserting your authority in and out of the relationship. You seek men who are self-confident and successful, because you are comfortable with the concept that you can be fulfilled through him (and him through you). As long as your partner honors the marriage as much as you do and appreciates you, you will be happy. If he doesn't, you must concentrate on your own growth and discover an identity independent of him.
