This is a walkthrough/cheat/review file for the adult CD-ROM game "Latex" by VCA Interactive. If you're not into hard core sex, and wearing rubber suits or clothing disgusts you, then avoid this title. It comes with 2 CDs; Disc 1 "The Final Transmission" is the game, Disc 2 "The Complete Dispatch" is music and sex scene video clips from the movie, plus the draft script and an interview. Like a lot of others, this game fails to operate properly under QuickTime 4.0.3, so you have to install QuickTime 2.0.1 through 2.1.59 to play. Theoretically, you need to play through the game on Disc 1 before you can use Disc 2. However, there was a piece of paper in the case with the discs that had the codes for Disc 2 on it. This paper also had a map for the game with several things that need correcting: 1. The website for the game is now at http://www.vcadvd.com 2. The map and hints on that website are pretty good. The walkthrough below is based heavily on the website. But there are still things they missed, and the proofreading on the hints was lacking. 3. The paper says to listen to the INFO, but none of it is very useful, and it's obviously an afterthought. You never do anything for the missing doctors, so as a game this is useless. For getting to sex scenes on Disc 1, you can do better with just using a QuickTime movie player. All you'll miss are the 3 "move the mouse up and down to satisfy the Cyberbabe" sequences; everything else is a movie! 4. The Digital Billboard on TV Way is located near the southeast corner of the Noble Asylum building, but you can only click on it to view the video if you are standing at the west end of TV Way looking east. The first click puts you at the billboard, a second click on the image will play the movie. 5. If your paper map is better quality than mine, or you look at the map image on the website, you'll see a kiosk on the south side of TV Way just west of Pool Avenue. No, there's nothing there in the game. Also, both the paper and website basically have (1) and (2) mixed up; you start in Noble Asylum, then get to TV Way, then get back in and go to Pony Hallway (3). 6. Similarly, the "Secret Door" shown on TV Way on the website map is also just not there in the game. The starting position is really inside Noble Asylum (correctly shown on my paper), not near Malcom's Lair as shown on the website. There is also no kiosk in the southwest corner of the Noble Asylum entry hall (shown on the website). And the Inner Sanctum room really doesn't have an exit, you have to quit the game. Why VCA hasn't bothered to fix this map is unknown; it's probably for an earlier design of the game than the paper or the actual disc. Just ignore the map on the website, and most of the paper included in the case, and use the following walkthrough and the map image LATEXMAP.PNG (found at the same place you should have gotten this text file). WALKTHROUGH (based heavily on http://www.vcadvd.com/latxhelp.html) In Noble Asylum, where you begin, you must first view the video kiosk on your right. After viewing this, it transports you outside to near The Julie Show. You must then view the video billboard (located on the upper left corner) by clicking on it. Then, proceed forward and make a right onto Pool Ave. You must then view each of the three video kiosks (with Sunset Thomas) to enable the puzzle panel that allows re-entry to Noble Asylum. You will have to solve a sound puzzle to re-enter Noble Asylum. If this is too difficult, see the cheats below. After re-entering Noble Asylum, you must then go to the right to get to Pony Hallway. Watch the video kiosk that rises from the floor. Don't forget to view the terminals halfway down the hallway, by facing each wall (there are a total of three video clips to see before entering the Examination Room, located at the end of Pony Hallway). Otherwise, you can't even try to enter the Examination Room. You will have to solve another sound puzzle to enter the Examination Room (each time you enter). See cheats if you have difficulties. Once inside, you will need to go straight ahead to view the TV Monitor. Click on it until no more video clips are shown. You will need to back-up and make sure you notice the clue on the north wall (which is a triangle and the number 53). Find the elevator (which is designated by a blue arrow pointing downwards) and go down. Press the button to go up or down, and click on the window to turn around and exit the elevator. You are in the Secret Room. Proceed down the hallway to the Cyberbabe. Enter that number you found in the Examination Room. Your job is now to move your mouse up and down, until the Cyberbabe is satisfied. Once the Cyberbabe is satisfied, you can proceed to Malcolm's Lair. To get to Malcolm's Lair, exit Noble Asylum (you can walk out the south door) and go straight down Pool Avenue (where all the video kiosks are found). Malcolm's Lair is located all the way at the south end. To enter, you need to figure out a simple number game (to bypass, see cheats). Once inside, you will need to find a big TV monitor and view all the movies to gain access to The Julie Show. Right before you exit, you will find another clue on the wall: the pi sign and the number 76. You may now proceed to The Julie Show. [Or, if you want to get through this as fast as possible, now go back to the Examination Room and go down to the secret room. Now enter the number you found in Malcom's Lair. Again you have to move the mouse up and down to satisfy the Cyberbabe. Go back up, down Pony Hallway and keep going across the main hall to the Hall of Loonies (nothing to see here) to the Archive, skipping The Julie Show and Hampshire Hall - the next 2 paragraphs.] To enter The Julie Show, you must solve another sound puzzle (to bypass, use the cheat). Once in the room, you must view all the movie clips on three different monitors (including the big monitor located at the center of the room). Proceed back to the Examination Room and go down to the Secret Room. Now enter the number you found in Malcom's Lair. You then have to move the mouse up and down to satisfy the Cyberbabe again. Now, proceed to Hampshire Hall and view everything in there. There are two hidden videos in Hampshire Hall. To access these videos, you must back-up all the way to the door (you must be facing the light) and you'll see two monitors on either side of the light. Just click on them to view the videos. Then, proceed to the Hall of Loonies to get to the Archive. To get to the Hall of Loonies, you must re-enter Noble Asylum. Go one step in, then turn left and go to the door to enter the Hall of Loonies. Go all the way to the end of the Hall and you will find the door that leads to the Archive. Once again, you must solve the game to enter (to bypass, use the cheat sheet). Once inside, go to the monitor to view a movie clip. You will find another clue; the psi sign and the number 19. Again, you must go back to the Secret Room to enter this number and, once again, satisfy the Cyberbabe. Proceed to the Megasplash Room (located on the far north side of Noble Asylum, there's a robot in front of the room until you've completely satisfied the Cyberbabe in the Secret Room). You will see two statues. You must get these statues to face each other to gain access to the last part of the game, which is the Inner Sanctum. To get the statues to face one another, you must go to the radio panel located on the left side of the entry hall of Noble Asylum (opposite the video kiosk that got you out of the Asylum at the beginning of the game, and initially looks like the video kiosk too), and turn the dials so both indentations are near the 3-o'clock position (you might have to play with the dials and check the statues a few times, try moving one at a time by one notch). The top knob is for the female, the bottom one is for the male. 2-o'clock female & 4-o'clock male worked for me, but I think the game moved one a smidge to make it work. Go back to the statues. If they are facing each other, lightning will strike the middle and a monitor will appear. You will then need to proceed to the Inner Sanctum to view the remaining video clips of the game and the last piece of the code that will enable you to access the 2nd disc. CHEATS (based on http://www.vcadvd.com/codes.html) To open all doors: PC: While holding down Alt, Ctrl and Shift, move mouse (without clicking) over the Hand button (located on the control panel) quickly, and move it off. Mac: While holding down Shift, Option and Ctrl, move mouse over the Hand button quickly, and move it off. If done properly, the computer will beep several times. To skip a sound puzzle: PC: While holding down Cntrl and Shift, click on Audio (located on the game controls). While holding down Cntrl, click the Enter button on the puzzle control panel. Mac: While holding down the Command Key (apple Key) and shift, click on Audio (located on the game controls). While holding down the Command Key, click the Enter button on the screen. If done properly, "Access Granted" will appear. To skip the Mastermind game: PC: While holding down the Alt key, click the Enter button on the screen. Mac: While holding down the Option key, click the Enter button on the screen. If done properly, "Access Granted" will appear. Annoying things during play: 1. Atmospheric sounds don't stop when you're playing an INFO audio. 2. At the end of some video clips (particularly a second or third one that's displayed full-screen after one in a window), there is some very quiet (compared to the video's volume) voice that tells you where to go next. You can't hear it again without loading a saved game and watching the video clips again. 3. Maybe it was something on my computer, or I misunderstood, but I thought that the game was trying to tell me to insert Disc 2 after you get to the end of Disc 1 and all you see are the codes. Well, that crashed my machine! You must QUIT the game, remove disc 1, then insert disc 2. 4. On disc 2, the sound level display (for red, green and blue items in the shelves) stops as soon as you try clicking on another item, even though the music keeps playing. Need to enter the password from the little piece of paper found in the CD jewel box to use Disc 2 "The Complete Dispatch". However, all this gets you is the ability to view all 9 movies in sequence, listen to music and sound from the movie, and see the script and interview. Except for automatically going to the next movie in the sequence, using a movie player outside "Latex" will probably do more for you. (Actually, QuickTime 4 doesn't seem to do the video of fast rewind properly, but the player on Disc 2 does. Go figure.) On disc 2, click on a music item a second time while it's playing to stop it. Only one red item does anything, the vertical one just to the right of 3 tilted ones. From left to right, the only green items that do anything are: #1, #4, #8 (script), #10 (interview). All the blue items play music, except #9 on the far right is just "It's The Julie Show" chorus. The "Skip" buttons go to previous (down) and next (up) videos in sequence, and it wraps around! Double-click on a video to toggle it between full screen and regular size (may have to press play again). Unfortunately, the Power button on the video "remote" doesn't work, just the Quit one, so play the videos only after you're done playing music or looking at the script or interview. Good sex videos on the 2 CDs: Disc 1: DPGINA2.MOV ESCAPE.MOV JONSUN1.MOV JONSUN2.MOV JULIESEX.MOV LATEXGG.MOV MEGASPLS.MOV RETINA.MOV SCN3MILL.MOV SEXSCN21.MOV SEXSCN2P.MOV SEXSCN4.MOV SHOCK.MOV Disc2: LATEX1.MOV through LATEX9.MOV (PAGE.MOV & PG.MOV are apparently both the script; I can't find the .MOV for the interview) As a game, this had a lot of promise at the beginning. The introduction was good, but after the first INFO they threw it all away, and it became "forced to watch sex scenes and endure stupid puzzles". Not quite the mind of a madman is it? The ending of the game actually has no resolution of the starting situation. Buy it for the substantial parts of "Latex" on the 2 CDs, not because it's an adult game.
