This file contains hints, Q&A and a walkthrough for the adult anime game "Cobra Mission" from Megatech Software (a division of Liberty International Components, Inc.). The original source of some of this file was the Megatech BBS, but it has since been heavily edited and a lot of things added by Pete Karsanow (bishoujo.helper[AT}sbcglobal{DOT)net). Megatech is apparently out of business now, and this game can be classed as "abandonware." Therefore, I am now providing a lot more information about how to obtain and play the game than I did earlier. This even though this game is in English, so I'm going against my stated policy of not facilitating piracy of adult anime games released in English. Again, it's only because Megatech is apparently out of business, and Cobra Mission cannot be obtained in retail outlets anymore. If somebody knows different, let me know and I'll change my tune! I suggest using Courier or another monospace font when displaying this file, so the tables look nice. WHAT IS COBRA MISSION, AND HOW DO I GET IT? Cobra Mission is a DOS program for the PC. It was originally sold as multiple floppy disks, with only an NR-18 ("contains partial nudity") mode available. This was the first release by Megatech, although I'm unable to find or determine the Japanese or Chinese game it was converted from. When installed, the game is about 10.0 MB on a hard drive, so I'm guessing it was 8 3.5" HD floppies in the box. ZIPped, it can now be found on the Internet at only 6.5 MB. The system requirements for the game are DOS 3.3 or later (remember, this game came out in 1993), a 286 processor, VGA or EGA graphics, 640K of RAM, and 11MB on your hard drive. A sound card is highly recommended, but it will work with just a speaker. A mouse is highly recommended too. I found a downloadable copy of the game, partially translated into Spanish, at http://members.es.tripod.de/punk/cm.html where inside the files it refers to http://jump.to/elpunki/ as the home page. The translation apparently involved modifications to the CM.EXE and CODE.VOL files. Another Spanish site is at http://www.ciudadfutura.com/solucionesytrucos/truco/cobra_mission.html The English version that I've been playing (it's a long story involving sewage, but let's just say I lost my original copy of the game) was obtained at http://www.plasticman.org/hentai and is apparently complete. The original version of the game had copy protection in the form of asking you to input a 5-digit number when given a letter and 2 digits. But it looks like both the copies mentioned above have already been patched to remove the copy protection. There is a COBRACODE.TXT file available on my website just in case you have a copy that hasn't been patched, though. HINTS FOR COBRA MISSION For each area (neighborhood) in the game, first are questions and answers (Q&A), then coordinates and short descriptions of points of interest, then lists of what local stores sell, then a walkthrough of the area: Central Cobra - Area One West Cobra - Area Two South Cobra - Area Three East Cobra - Area Four Cobra Cemetery - Area Five These are presented in the order in which you enter them during play. You can move the "hole" around with the mouse. Click to exit. Shoot all 3 gang members. It doesn't matter how many shots you use in this combat, or how hurt you are, as long as you don't die. You will resume automatic movement to your partner's house. At your partner's house in the middle of Central Cobra, she will join you. Her house can be used as a base. You are healed to full hit point capacity when you enter her house. So it's a good idea to visit the house when you're in the area. Rocket Delivery and the Photo Junkie are nearby. Save often in Central Cobra because the Karoshic may steal valuable equipment. The .44 Magnum is irreplaceable. If stolen, you must restore your saved game and replay. Visit Rocket Delivery, east of your partner's house, and get a job. Wear the Red Cap in order to make your deliveries. After each delivery, return to Rocket Delivery to get your pay and next assignment. Make deliveries quickly in order to get the maximum pay and not get fired. Do not return to Rocket Delivery unless you made your delivery. Keep making deliveries until both you and your partner have enough weapons, armor, and supplies from the two shops: Estrille Shop and Angel Drugs. Visit the Photo Junkie west of your partner's house. Look for lingerie items when you make your deliveries. They may really be "Lady's Panty", "Lady's Bra", or just "Lingerie", but they all act the same, so I call them all lingerie. Give them to the Photo Junkie, he will give you a sexy picture for each lingerie. There are 15 pieces of lingerie throughout Cobra Island, some in the Boss' hideouts. Be sure to visit all the important spots outlined above. For example, talk to everyone at Bar BJ, try to jump over the damaged bridge and report the damage to City Hall. Joe at the bar will tell you that a gang blew up the East Bridge, and that Club 10 only allows girls in. Hugo tells you Club 10 up north wants girls, but lies about making them models, and is white slavery, the Boss "Tacker" can go through the railroad gate, and he has the key and money. Beck tells you that work for Cobra Pharmacy is risky, and that Club 10 takes deliveries. Visit Club 10 twice and return to the Bar. One customer will tell you that Tacker, the Central Cobra Boss, has returned from West Cobra. At the Pharmaceutical Research Center in the northeast, you should participate in their clinical research, but ONLY ONCE. Participating in the research is optional. Your Strength will increase one time. Remember, only participate ONCE! Being a human guinea pig will make you sick but you can survive if you return there quickly. Two times will kill you! Return to the research center for the antidote. To trigger the need for the antidote, go to Club 10. Save your game before entering Club 10. After attempting to enter Club 10, let your partner speak to the receptionist who will let her in. She will be kidnapped! Return to the Bar and talk to Beck. He is seated at the end of the bar. He knows how to get into Club 10. With your Red Cap on, go to Club 10, the receptionist will send you to the side door. Go in to make your delivery. You must click on the counter in front of people who are behind counters to speak with them. The auto-routing system does not recognize clicks on people. Find the key in the plant near the door. Save the game before entering. Beat Tacker in order to save Steffie. Search the room for lingerie. Go get your partner out of the next room, search this room for lingerie too. Go to your partner's house and call Steffie for a date! Be sure to re-equip your partner with a weapon before going into West Cobra! Go to West Cobra through the Railroad Crossing. Unlock it with the Club 10 key. Buy vibrators at Keller's Adult Toy Shop in West Cobra and call Steffie back! West Cobra - Area Two Q. Can I fool around with the hooker at the Bar? A. Yes. But you must be alone. Q. I want to learn Dowsing. Can I? A. No. But your partner will learn soon. Q. The guys at the bar want good liquor. Is there any? A. Yes. Get a part-time job at Rocket Delivery in West Cobra. Q. I've been to Winter's house, but he won't let me in? A. Deliver goods to him. Q. I can't find the good liquor in the Adult Toy Shop. A. You need the Dowsing ability. Take your partner to learn Dowsing at one of the four Row Houses. Q. When will my partner finish her Dowsing lessons? A. Take your partner's advice. Visit the Bar. Don't skip the hooker! Q. I don't want to pay Winter back. Do I have to give Winter the extra bottle of VSOP Cognac? A. No. If you keep the extra bottle, you might be able to sell it later for a good price. If you give the bottle to Winter, he will give you something in return. Q. I have new clothes. Can I sell my old clothes? A. Wait and sell them later in the game. Q. I gave Wendell my VSOP cognac and now he's drunk, what do I do? A. Wendell won't miss a thing while he's blitzed. Keep talking to him until you're sure he's totally drunk. Then take anything he has. Q. Where is the key for the House of Leather and Chains? A. Look in the four unlocked rooms as you first enter the House of Leather and Chains. The key is hidden in one of these rooms under the carpet. Q. I buy the farm each time I come up against the Boss!! He kills me before I have a chance to fight. A. Listen to the Bar Fly. He will tell you about a guy in North Park. Find him and ask him about his daughter. Q. The Boss is too strong!! I still meet the Grim Reaper. A. Visit the Adult Toy Shop. Take the storekeeper's VSOP cognac and pay close attention as he can help you beat the Boss. Make sure you choose your newly acquired item when you fight. This will make the Boss very, very weak - he will beg you for mercy!!! Q. I don't have the train engineer's whistle. Can I still beat the Boss? A. No. You need the whistle. Save your game often! (as many as 8 games) Load a game saved before you met the Boss. Otherwise, start all over. Dominique wants you, so you must free yourself from your partner. Wendell tells you about the House of Leather & Chains. Monty tells you HLC is not approved by City Hall, and that the Engineer is in the North Park looking for Yvonne. Guile tells you that Winter (found in NE) has liquor. The Bartender can restore your strength when tired for $10. Go northwest to the Park and talk to the Railroad Engineer. Get the Whistle from him. The Whistle is essential for when you encounter the West Cobra Boss. Go east to Rocket Delivery. Make your deliveries in West Cobra and remember to search for 2 pieces of lingerie. Again, visit all the important spots just as in Central Cobra, especially the House of Leather and Chains. Buy new clothes, weapons and any items to help you defeat the crooks. Go west to Keller's Store and buy everything in stock, or at least the two types of vibrators. Winter knows where to get good cognac. You must find the cognac for the guys at the Bar. Deliver to him in the NE corner. You will find the cognac in Keller's Store as soon as your partner learns Dowsing. Dowsing is the ability to find hidden items, hidden doors and hidden passageways. Go southeast and take her to Dowsing School. Your partner has latent Dowsing talent! You can never learn Dowsing. Apparently you don't have any talent. Dowsing increases her experience. Take advantage of the time you're alone to pursue other interests! Go see Dominique and engage her services for $100. You can also return to the Rose Hotel back in Central Cobra (although I wouldn't bother). Your partner will not be done with school until you pay Dominique once. Pick up your partner when you are ready. Re-equip her with a weapon. She is in the room west of the Dowsing Instructor. Remember! Once you pick up your partner you won't be able to hit on the hookers. Of course, you can always return to your partner's house and phone your lady friends! Together with your partner, thoroughly search Keller's Store until you find a hidden passageway behind the wardrobe. A stairway will lead you to the hidden bottles of cognac in the basement. Also find Poisonous Dart, SHERR Spray, and Vitamax + down there. Keller will give you a Bottle of Gin and tell you a strategy to kill Derek, the West Cobra Boss. Talk to Wendell to use one bottle of cognac. When he's completely drunk, take his House of Leather and Chains membership card. Give one bottle to Winter for a Girly Magazine. Go to the House of Leather and Chains. Look under the rug in each room to find a Small Key, $20, M10 Revolver Ammo, $50, $50, and $20. Strike the S&M girl until she whimpers. Save your game before entering the locked room. Talk to Yvonne and find a lingerie item and a Vitamax + in the room. Derek will attack as you are leaving! Use Gin on Derek and cut Derek's whip with your Pocket Knife. Derek's weak areas are his armpits, legs and hands. On defeating Derek, find a lingerie, Vitamax ++, Shanel No.555, and M10 Revolver Ammo in the room he came from. Return to Keller's Store and you will see that now he only sells Vitamax items. In case you didn't buy any vibrators earlier, restore your game and replay. One Rotary Vibrator was found in the bar in West Cobra. Get the South Cobra map from Rocket Delivery and talk to Yvonne's father back in South Cobra's Railroad Station. You can now phone either Yvonne or Steffie! Take the train from Central Station to South Cobra. Don't walk on the tracks! It's not a short cut, and it's dangerous! South Cobra - Area Three Q. No one is at the Police Station. A. Try both entrances. Q. I still can't enter the Police Station, what can I do? A. Remember, a sleuth must always be on his toes. Listen to the Bar Flies; they mention a girl's house. Check it out. Find Geppel. He's the Army recruiter. Wear your Army uniform when you go to the Police Station. You need something else to pass off as more than just a private. Q. I can't find an Army uniform? A. Talk to Mick at the Bar. He can help you find a uniform. Q. I can't find Geppel. A. He's in South Cobra. Walk around until you see him. Don't enter any houses! Geppel moves each time you enter a house. Q. I'm itching to see Melissa but when I call her she's busy. A. Cross over to East Cobra as soon as the Bridge is repaired. Then you'll have your chance! Q. I can't enter the Army warehouse. A. Look inside the Weapon Shop for something to break the locked chain. One hockey player uses it every Friday the 13th. Q. I wear my Army uniform but the guard still won't let me in! A. Privates don't get any respect. Change your rank. Go to the Bar for more information. A map of South Cobra will make your search easier. Q. There must be plenty of guns and ammo in this military zone. A. Yes. Find the gun and ammo because you will need them later! Look inside the hidden dark room in the Police Station. Q. How do I find the secret entrance? A. Search all the rooms in Police HQ. Q. I lost my partner in the Dowsing School. She's not with the instructor. A. Look in all the rooms. You'll find her. Q. I found my partner but she's still meditating. A. Talk to the instructor first then go see your partner. Q. My partner's Dowsing power has increased, how do we use it? A. Take her to the hidden room in the police station and search again. Q. Fist's Base is too big. Is there a map? A. Yes. The Construction Company has a map. Q. The Atlas Construction clerk refuses to give me more maps. How can I persuade her? A. Give her something she likes. Look for a gift in the store. Q. I can't beat the Dark Knight! A. Attack him with the gun from the hidden, dark room. (NOT NECESSARY) Q. All the lights are black on the second floor of General Fist's Base. A. Find the entrance and fight Fist and his men. Q. I beat General Fist but my partner is no longer with me, where is she? A. She went home with the girl. Q. I'm in a room with a divider in the middle. Can I get to the other side? A. This is Fritz's house. You can either enter from the east side of the house, or break through the divider once when you are alone. Q. I see there are two bartenders in the Bar. A. The bartender on the right has only one customer although he has the wider bar and more stools. Have a drink. Then you'll know why! Q. I'm inside an empty house and there's a mean bad dog. A. Don't be afraid of the dog, he's chained. The owner of the house is out. Take everything you find. Geppel is at Police HQ and Fist controls the Base. The random attacks stop when you defeat Fist. No deliveries are made. The locations highlighted on the map are crucial to restoring justice in South Cobra. Keep the map. Visit all the locations and talk to everyone you meet. Head southeast to Hal's Bros Pub. Talk to the crowd and take a Lighter. You will be told that General Fist took over the police force, you must wear one of their uniforms, they act like robots, there is an electric fence around his house. There are two Bartenders. One wants $15 for two drinks, the other only $5 each. You don't need either. Head northwest to Police HQ and talk to the private guarding the west entrance. Continue heading northeast until you reach Atlas Construction. Enter twice and obtain the maps of Police HQ. Don't be confused; Police HQ, Police Station and Army Scout HQ are all the same place. Go to Fritz's House, northeast of the Pub. Enter through the east door and find the East Cobra map and the Girly Magazine. If you accidently enter through the south door, search the northwest barrier in the west wing thus allowing you one chance to run through the barrier if you are alone. The only other entrance into the north wing is the east door. Go to Sacchrus Tools and buy an Ax and 2 Steel Pipes. Use the Ax as a weapon to enter the Warehouse. Go to Life-Plus Drugs and buy an Orchid Brooch for a gift, and Jean Skirt, Leather Jacket, and Leather Coat for armor. Look for Geppel. He is the Army recruiter wandering about in South Cobra. After finding Geppel, go back to the Pub. Head to the Warehouse and steal the Army uniforms. Break the door lock with your Ax and look for the military hat, coat, pants, and boots inside the boxes. There is a hidden door in the warehouse with 4 Boxes of M10 Ammo in the darkness. Put on the uniform then go see the private guarding Police HQ. Note that the pants and cap are an improvement to your armor, but the boots and uniform are not. You are automatically wearing the military gear when you find it in the warehouse. It will also all be removed if you return to your partner's house later (after defeating Fist?). You must be wearing all uniform pieces to exit the warehouse, get past the guard at Police HQ, or talk to the guys at the bar, but not necessary to do stuff at Mick's house. Go see Mick at the Pub. He'll tell you about MacArthur's uniform and his son living at Mick's home northwest of the Pub and west of the railroad tracks. Go see Mick's son at home. He's watching television. Turn off the television and talk to the boy. He will tell you how to get the military rank insignia from MacArthur's uniform. Note that although the TV seems to be lit up if you come back, you can only see the video the first time before you turn the TV off. Police HQ Save the game. Enter Police HQ through the west door and head northeast to confront Geppel. You won't have any encounters in the HQ until after you defeat Geppel, so search first. Look for an M10 Revolver and 4 Fire Crackers in the darkness E of a hidden door in one of the north/south corridors. Afterwards, keep searching the northwest wing until your partner returns to Dowsing School for another lesson. Visit both Bars in South and West Cobra. Pay for both Chrissy and Dominique. You must have sex at least once with each of them to continue your mission. Chrissy originally wants $400 but you can talk her down to $200. Call any of your lady friends during your partner's absence. Melissa appears on your phone book but you cannot date her until the bridge to East Cobra is repaired. You may also want to visit the Rose Hotel or Mick's house again. However, the Hotel isn't useful and wastes $60, and I couldn't see the TV at Mick's even though it was supposedly on. When you are ready to continue, return to Hal's Bros Pub. Chat with the crowd. Take a Lighter and return to pick up your partner from the West Cobra Dowsing School. Search the blue house southeast of Police HQ for more lingerie. Save your game. Bribe the Atlas Construction girl with an Orchid Brooch for both maps of Fist's Base. Return to Police HQ and search the northwest room. A secret passageway behind a wardrobe leads to Fist's base. Fist's Base Find the secret passageway to Fist's Base. The only item is the Megatech Torch in the side passage. There is another statue that moves to reveal another secret passage: search boxes to get 2 Vitamax +, $10, Vitamax ++, $20, 2 M-80, 2 Ninja Star. In each of the 2 fountains outside there is a Box of M10 Ammo. Once inside the Base, go upstairs. Fight the Dark Knights as you work your way to the center. The Dark Knights are tough; their only weak spot is between the helmet and breastplate. There are no items on the first floor or second floor, except the keys guarded by Dark Knights. At the center of the maze, turn all the green buttons to red. They will turn into pits as soon as the last one turns red. Jump down one of the pits. Both of you will go down to 1/2 of your hits, so heal before moving north. Save your game before entering the room and fighting Fist. In the room along the walls are 2 Boxes of M10 Ammo, a Power Capsule, and a Vita Up. The Key Chain will open the outside gate for a short cut back to the main part of South Cobra. Talk to everyone. Buy a carrot cookie or 2 from the Confectionery store in the center of East Cobra. Go north to the Research Center once. Find Duncan. He will tell you about the cold-weather gear at his house. Go to Mrs. Crissy's house and trade her a cookie for a Stun Gun. She is not the same Chrissy you met in Bar BJ. Equip your partner with the Stun Gun. Enter the beach near the dock. Enter the southernmost beach house then enter the northernmost beach house. Look for 2 lingerie downstairs. Wake up Vinny. Talk to Vinny later at his house in the northeast section of East Cobra. You can get one lingerie before rescuing Vinny, the second after he is rescued, and you can only get the Map of the Cemetery by coming back to his house again. Vinny's house will show up on the map of East Cobra only after you rescue him, even if you've been there before. Get the arctic gear from Duncan's house and leave the diamond pendant as collateral. Save your game. Equip yourselves with the arctic gear and enter the Research Center. You don't have to be wearing the Winter Coat and Winter Jacket to enter the C.P.R.C., but they are your best armor at the moment, so do it anyway. There is only one entrance into the C.P.R.C. until you rescue Donna, then the left one is a short cut to Donna. Traverse the maze until you find and change all the blue buttons to red by moving toward them. When all are red, they will change to green and unlock the gate to Mechachrome. There are no items on the first floor of the maze. Save your game. Look for Mechachrome, the Robot Boss, in the northeast Wing. Make Mechachrome easier to defeat by hitting and breaking his cannon as soon as the cannon compartment opens to fire. After destroying the cannon, hit Mechachrome in the eyes, palm and fist. Use the Stun Gun also. Go downstairs, get the Molotov Cocktail from the NW corner, and use the computer to free Donna. Open the back door and step into the dark area. In the darkness are 2 Vitamax ++ and a Magic Spray. The stairs up and out are just N of the SW corner. Return to Duncan's house and remove your arctic gear to recover the diamond pendant. Go to Central Cobra and enter your partner's house. Relax. Call Donna, Melissa, or any of your other lady friends for a date! And don't forget to trade in your lingerie. Cobra Cemetery - Area Five Q. Go to the Central Cobra's Railroad Station. Fight King Kong Jr.! Go to the Cemetery by train. Save your game. Head south from the train station and rescue the Mayor held hostage inside the red house. If Duncan has the diamond pendant, you must return it to City Hall. Push the statue near the red house to expose the first stairway leading underground. Cemetery and Underground Walkthrough Get the Underground map from the old man at the entrance. Push the statues northward to reveal the stairways. Make your way until you reach the Castle. Check out the beach bunnies without the need of a telescope! Talk to everyone in the Underground. Buy ammo and best armor. Find the two maps of the Castle, the Esper Rod, and the Girly magazine. Find Stanley, the leader of the Underground. He is in a room near the first large room to the south. Then you can get the Sword of Gaia inside the southwestern house of the Cemetery. You get the full screen version of the telescope view if you go south to the south edge of the Cemetery shore, only for parts 3 and 4 of the Cemetery. Don't worry about the large NW room on the Underground map, you'll go there eventually. The Sword of Gaia will cut the lock on the gate leading to the Castle, and will automatically equip as your weapon if you haven't already. The Castle Walkthrough Find the four Crystal Balls: 1. 2nd Floor Southwest 2. 3rd Floor Center 3. 1st Floor Southeast 4. 3rd Floor Southwest Look for the Pyramids: 1. 1st Floor West 2. 2nd Floor Southwest 3. 1st Floor Northwest 4. 3rd Floor Southwest The Castle fights are frequent and the toughest. Prepare and strengthen yourself to defeat Captain Hawk, the Graveyard Boss; and Kaiser, the Boss of Cobra Island. Use the Sword of Gaia all the time! The only way to victory. The initially accessible portions of the Castle have 4 stairs: first in the SW corner, which eventually leads to the Pyramid on the 3rd floor SW corner; second in the NE corner which leads to either the Pyramid on 1st floor NE corner or the 9 pits on 1st floor NW corner; third in the W center which leads to a red chest with a Crystal Ball on the 2nd floor, and stairs down to the Pyramid on the 1st floor West; last in N center to everything else including Captain Hawk and Kaiser. No items found lying around in the Castle, everything is in those red chests, but several are already empty. Enter the Castle through the south center, head to NE corner, up stairs to 2nd floor and take stairs on W side down to the pits. Drop down through any one of the nine pits. Both of you take 50 damage. You are back in the Underground in so far unexplored area. Head south searching for dynamite and a secret passageway out. Find Super Vitamax in NW corner box, SHERR Spray in E side box, Hand Grenade in SW corner box, Power Capsule in W darkness, and Dynamite in E darkness. Return to the Castle and head up the northeast stairs one flight and go to the locked gate. You will automatically place the Dynamite, light it, and back away! If you forgot your Lighter, then head back to the Pub or look for one inside the Unused Warehouse. Now, blow up the gate! Look for Captain Hawk and his two henchmen on the third floor in the southeast. Save your game, and face Captain Hawk. His weak points are the eyes, lower body, and armpits. Take the map of the third floor (not labeled, but that's what it is) and the Swastika key. Head down one flight via stairs to SW. Save your game. In the center of the Castle, open the dark room with the Swastika key. Walk in and head directly north. Do not open the door you run into. Then again... save your game and enter the door. Experience the thrill of dying at the hands of a life-size, inflatable doll! Head straight, ignoring the door, and throw the switch that widens a crack in the wall upstairs. Go back upstairs and to the north and look for the last Crystal Ball and Pyramid. The crack has widened, leading you to the Southwest Wing. Save your game. Meet Kaiser! Fight your way toward Kaiser! Eight Combats stand between you and the Boss of Cobra Island. Attack Kaiser with vengeance! Plunge the Sword of Gaia between his eyes. Your partner can use either the Esper Rod or the Stun Gun. When it seems you've defeated him, watch out! He will tear off his shirt and he will become a bare-chested madman! Plunge the Sword of Gaia into his navel while your partner fires her .44 Magnum with all the strength you can muster! Escape out of the Castle before it blows up! (Actually, the endgame after the fight with Kaiser is all automatic. Relax and enjoy the show.) You and your partner have saved Cobra Island and its grateful residents! They plan a parade for you down Central Cobra so hurry back. Propose to your partner. Enjoy the honeymoon! MISCELLANEOUS Q&A Q. I have ammo boxes, but I can't fire my gun! A. Use the ammo boxes to load your gun. Use the right ammo. Each ammo is good for one shot, each box adds 6 shots. Q. Can you explain the battle mechanics? A. Attack when your opponent's attack meter rises, you will inflict more damage. There are other random factors. Q. My weapon does not hit where I aim. Why? A. Depending on the weapon, you must aim for accuracy. Judge the weight of the weapon, compensate for drift (incorporated by us to make fighting more difficult) and aim! Q. Is the TECHS statistic important? A. The higher your TECHS, the more stamina you will have. Comes in handy when you hook up with the girls! Q. Is this how I increase my chances with the girls? A. Yes. Improve your TECHS by learning from the pros (the hookers)! And hitting a home run with any of the girls on your phone list will surely improve your game! Q. Is there a shop that sells Hand Grenades? A. No. Q. My partner's level suddenly went up and overtook mine. Why? A. She learned how to Dowse. Q. I point the mouse cursor at the bartender, but I don't move! A. Point the mouse cursor at the bar in front of the bartender. The auto-routing system cannot take you over or through the counter. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION PROBLEMS Q&A Q. Why can't I hear all the sounds when I only use my PC speaker? A. Always use your sound card if you have one. When you use a PC speaker to produce PCM sounds, the CPU is unable to handle the extreme load from all the sound and screen operations. The CPU will drop the PCM sounds and sometimes may also drop the animation. Q. Can I save my game records to floppy diskettes for safe keeping? A. Yes. Copy the file GAME.REC from your game directory. Q. I just bought a new sound card. Can I use it with Cobra Mission without reinstalling the entire game? A. Yes. Type INSTALL from your game directory and choose the appropriate options. Q. I have a PAS card. On the PAS card, I selected a base I/O address other than 388H but I can't select the same Base I/O address in the INSTALL options. Is this OK? A. Yes. The base I/O address displayed inside INSTALL is for the Sound Blaster I/O address. COBRA MISSION automatically detects any changes on your PAS card so there is no problem. Combat Aim and click! It's that simple. Aim the weapon icon on the enemy's vulnerable area at their most vulnerable time. Though it appears logical to stab a knife with its sharp end or point a gun at a target, the Cobra Mission weapon icons must be aimed with the center of the icon. Take into account the icon's entire dimensions including its non-lethal portions like handles. Move quickly to your target and adjust for drift. Your weapon appears at the corners away from your enemy and a drift factor affects your aim. Difficult at first, but more entertaining. Strike your enemy when they are about to strike you. Both you and your enemy are most vulnerable at this time since both of you are in an attacking posture instead of defensive posture. The meter in the upper right corner displays how soon your opponent will strike. As the meter increases, your weapon will have greater effect. Kaiser's goons attack randomly throughout the Island. You bring back peace and stop the attacks by defeating Kaiser's bosses. Overcoming your random attackers is easier than facing and battling the bosses so use the random attacks to gain experience and skill. As you continue your mission, the random attacks will become more frequent creating more danger yet allowing you to earn combat experience and skill quickly. You can accomplish more in less time as the game progresses because of the frequent attacks! Save your game often, and especially, save your game before confronting a Boss or Kaiser himself. Arm your partner and yourself with best weapons and armor, find vulnerable spots quickly and attack them repeatedly. Always have a strategy before battling a Boss. Firecrackers and Poisonous Darts are fast and painful. Use them! To overcome your foes when you cannot find their vulnerability, turn to the listing here. Keep this list handy while forging through Cobra. Know your enemy and attack their weak spots quickly and repeatedly. Some items may be given to you. Walk over the entire rug to make sure you didn't miss an item. Check furniture by bumping against it. Also look outside the buildings in the same manner among the shrubbery, fences, construction work, etc. Your partner and you can carry all the items you want (up to 250 of a single type). So don't throw anything away! It doesn't hinder you at all. Many games place you in a "what to keep? what to throw away?" dilemma. We prefer that you concentrate on your mission; deciding when and where to use your arsenal, gear and other items instead of wasting your time juggling your inventory! Money can go above $32767, except then you can't pay for Chrissy or Dominique, for drinks in bars, or for the train. If that happens, go to a store and buy things to get below $32767 and things work right again. Though we would have preferred to have voluntary love-making, the game's original design kept us from changing or removing the three required love-making sequences. You must satisfy Dominique, the bar hooker, and Sasha, the sleeping pill thief, to complete your mission. You will also marry your partner in the endgame. You do not need to date the others to complete your mission. Ignore these wonderful ladies or date them as often as you like, it's your choice. Use any of the following during a sexual encounter with the ladies of Cobra Mission: lips and tongue fingers rotary vibrator thrusting vibrator candle penis Purchase the vibrators in West Cobra before defeating its Boss. Pick up candles through combat or buy them. Both of these items, however, do not affect the outcome. The sole purpose of the candle is to quickly exit the "date". Your technical ability enables you to satisfy the ladies. Increase your ability by learning from Chrissy or Dominique. Dating and satisfying the ladies you rescue will also increase your ability. Steffie, Yvonne, Melissa, and Donna will give you their phone numbers when you rescue them. Call them from your partner's house. Love-making will begin with foreplay and lead up to the climax. Satisfy your partner with what you have available. The red lights above signal success! Your partner will throw you out if you cannot turn the lights red. Try again on your own or follow these specific procedures. You can only pay for Crissy's or Dominique's sexual favors when your partner is at Dowsing School or is otherwise away. Spend as much as you like. The more you learn the easier it will be to satisfy the ladies. These are the six sensitive areas: lips legs hair neck breast 'her favorite place' (pussy) Caress or kiss the important areas. Use the vibrator when the command is available. The use of the vibrator accomplishes the same as if you caress or kiss. For example, if you need to come in contact with your partner six times and you use the vibrator twice, then you only need to touch four more times to satisfy her. You can only use the vibrator three times. There's only one area where you can use the vibrator. The two types of vibrator (Rotary or Thrusting) are interchangeable, although they do have different animation. When the penis tool is available, there is also only one area where you can use it, sorry. Using it will complete the "date". Do the following in any order, unless noted, to satisfy your partner. Steffie - Foreplay: KISS LIPS, KISS NECK, TOUCH BREAST, KISS BREAST Finally, Kiss her breast. Steffie - The Act: WHISPER 2x, TOUCH HAIR, TOUCH LEG, TOUCH BREAST 2x, VIBRATOR 3x, KISS PUSSY 2x Ready to Go! (TOUCH HAIR may not be needed, can skip VIBRATOR 3x if you don't have one before going into West Cobra) Yvonne - Foreplay: WHISPER, TOUCH HAIR, KISS LIPS Finally, Kiss her lips. Donna - The Act: WHISPER 2x, TOUCH BREAST 2x, TOUCH HAIR, TOUCH LEG, VIBRATOR 3x Finally, Kiss her favorite place and slide home! (may not need to TOUCH LEG, may not need to WHISPER 2x) Though most players do not mind this feature of Cobra Mission, our future games will incorporate the sexier sequences as an option. Total sexy sequences: 4 girls via phone (Steffie, Yvonne, Melissa, Donna) 2 hookers in bars (Dominique, Chrissy) 1 "dream" girl in beach bar (Sasha) 1 delusion (inflatable doll) + female partner (Faythe) in endgame Total animated pictures: ?Aerobee monster -Central Cobra? S&M girl "porno movie" at MacArthur's house Total pictures: 3 Girly Magazines 15 Girl's Photo "nude beach" (telescope or full screen) Where: Central Cobra - 6 Lingerie (1 at each of 4 houses) West Cobra - 4 Lingerie, 1 Magazine (2 at delivery locations, 1 when talk to Yvonne before Derek, and 1 after Derek) South Cobra - 1 Lingerie, 1 Magazine (1 in blue house SE of Police HQ) East Cobra - 4 Lingerie (2 in N beach house downstairs) Cemetery - 1 Magazine *** Are there more than 15 pictures? Or 3 magazines? *** Advice from Pete: You should really only be doing the delivery job to get a little money, the maps, and some items that are not otherwise obtainable. If you can't get a response from somebody when you talk to them or try to deliver a package, make sure you are wearing the correct headgear. Should you have scruples about picking up stuff that doesn't belong to you, or don't want to see sexy pictures, then this wasn't the game for you in the first place. You can't avoid random encounters in the game, and they are the easiest way to beef up the characters (besides drugs). You will regenerate hits while walking around, but bumping into things counts for triggering combat. You are safe from combat in some buildings and any neighborhood after you have defeated the Boss. Because there is so much combat, don't use firearms which require expensive ammunition; just use melee weapons throughout the whole game! Although your partner says guns are illegal in Cobra, some monsters have them. Don't worry, you won't get in trouble for using one. The only problem with using a gun is that it uses up expensive ammunition quickly. I prefer melee weapons instead. Still, I wouldn't let the Karoshic steal equipment, or the Aerobee steal money from you; I'd restore a saved game. Search EVERYWHERE! Walk into trees, bushes, furniture, walls, and everybody you see! From different directions even! There are lots of things hidden all over, including weapons, armor, secret passages, female lingerie items, money, and other items. A few buildings even have multiple entrances, but you may realize which ones these are when you can see over the wall but can't get to the other areas inside a building. Thankfully, few of the hidden items are absolutely necessary, and you always find hidden things just by walking over or trying to walk into a space. Save the game before doing anything that sounds risky or out of the ordinary. There are a few places in the game where you can lose it all at once. One of them even takes quite a while to resolve: the Pharmacy Lab in Central Cobra! Have you ever been run over by a train? Save before entering the suspicious room in the Castle. Save before encountering any visible people, in case they start a combat that you aren't ready for yet. There are maps available for every neighborhood, including all the levels of the Castle. If you can't find one for where you are, keep looking there or elsewhere, or (in one case) visit the Construction Company again. Even though the shop owner doesn't like it, be sure to buy at least one adult toy (I don't think it matters if you have one or another type of vibrator in the sex scenes, they seem to be interchangeable) when you have the chance. He will permanently switch over to other products once Derek is defeated. And just in case you don't want to proceed any further with the girls you call on the phone, a candle could shed a little light. The Castle is truly a multi-level puzzle. Unless you are just blindly exploring, solving this to get to the endgame requires planning some routes with the maps. By trying things out and writing down the numbers, you can figure out which are the best armor and weapons to use. All you need is the amounts of the changes to the characters' statistics to figure out which is best, because the values themselves change as the characters gain levels. The original Megatech hint files kept saying that you need to go the Rose Hotel in Central Cobra to have sexy scenes with Chrissy and Dominique. Not true so far as I know. Same thing goes for having to meet your phone dates at the Rose Hotel, since the game does that automatically right after you call them, and even returns you to your partner's house, so in effect you don't go anywhere. They also imply that you can do something special at the hotel by yourself, or see something special on the TV at Mick's house, but there's nothing special for either. In fact, the hotel is a waste of $60, and the TV is turned off after the first time you visit. They also say you should see the girl at Atlas Construction while alone, but nothing happens there either. They also say something about an air conditioner in the C.P.R.C. in East Cobra; if you find it and turn it off, the robots will overheat and deactivate, making your trip through the first floor maze easier. I didn't find any air conditioner anywhere... You don't have to worry about money in the game, really. The store in the SW of Central Cobra will sell SHERR Spray for $35, but buy it from you for $40! This can be repeated as many times as you wish, to a maximum of 250 items each time. There are similar items at some other stores. The best is at Life-Plus Drugs in South Cobra, where you can double your money! The English used in the game is sometimes laughably bad. One thing you can fix with a binary editor is the "received xx damages" output for combat. Just search for "damage" in the file CM.EXE, and change the "%s" to two spaces (hex 20). I think there are several of these in the file. You can do this to the file xxx.VOL too, to fix the messages for some of the monsters which have special messages. Unfortunately, the rest of the text must be compressed or encrypted. Two things not mentioned in the manual: in combat you can select Defend (which doesn't help much) or Retreat (which may get you out of combat), and you must press the ESC key to leave the final endgame screen (with the Megatech blimp). I tried to figure out the save game file in Cobra Mission, and gave up. All I was able to identify was the name, date, and time of the save. The rest of the data is somehow encrypted, and the file has a checksum. I'd like to know if there are more than 15 Girls' Photos, or other items not listed, so if somebody has managed to hack the save game format could you let me know? Apparently the last 256 bytes have no effect on items or stats. The bytes from #48 to the first one containing 00 are the saved game name. The bytes from 64 to 768 contain data in blocks of 8 bytes, each block needs to have 08 to 0F subtracted from it to make sense. What else do I expect to see in the saved game file? - date and time of save - location of main character in area, x, y - partner present flag (she may be at Dowsing School, in Club 10, at home, or with JR) - JR and Faythe's current experience, (level?), max HP, current HP, values for STR, HIT% (base & modified), EVADE% (base & modified), STABILITY (base & modified), DEFEND, MENTAL, DEX, TECHS (JR only?), SPEED (modified) - JR & Faythe's current weapons and armor - $ - count of each inventory item type, values from 0 to 250 (why 250?) - preset item flags for all the items the game leaves lying around in the various areas - conversation and situation flags for all state changes of people and places in the game, e.g. Boss defeated, door opened, girl rescued Weapons For the weapons, the numbers given are the bonus (or penalty) that it gives to the character statistic, compared to Nothing (hands). Those statistics not listed (STR, DEX, DEFEND, MENTAL, TECHS) are not affected by choice of weapon. For some weapons, the EVADE bonus may vary during play between the two given values. The maximum effective HIT % is 99%; a character may really have greater than 99%, but any weapon bonus will not change it, and any weapon penalty may not lower it enough to go below 99% then either. This is why there are some "?" in the table. The two guns, when loaded, set ATTACK to the given value instead of adding, and act like other weapons when empty. In the "PART" column, the three different body areas that can be armored are the head (all for male character only), upper body (coat for male, dress and jacket for female), and lower body (pants and jeans for male, skirt for female). In general, you will find an item somewhere before it is available in a store. All armor items are effectively a bonus above the starting items. The male starts with a DEFEND rating of 7, the female with a DEFEND of 5. The armor items found or purchased throughout Cobra Island just improve them. The "Blue Jeans" are listed in the program, but they aren't available in the game as far as I know.
