This is a hint/photoshop patch file for the "Ambivalenz" (Ambiv) adult Windows anime game from ALICE-SOFT (http://www.alicesoft.co.jp/). Li Sun provided the description below and a saved game file. The game is distributed in several forms. I got it as 5 ZIP files containing from 1.34 to 1.37 MB each, except 960 K for the last one, named AMBI1.ZIP to AMBI5.ZIP. I'm certain there are other versions out there. Unzip all the files to a directory, start your Japanese text handler for Windows (NJWIN or similar), then run SYSTEM3.EXE to start the game. My version of System 3 here is 0.91. System 3 appears to be a PC98 emulator that runs on the PC. Some other Alice-Soft games, like Dalk, have it as well. The game needs NJWIN or something similar to display the Japanese text in Windows. Sound and music support as per Windows. Graphics are best at 640*480 256-colors or larger. Mouse supported. Couldn't find any keys to speed up the text display. Li Sun had this to say: An albino guy (white skin, white hair, red eyes and forever young due to some incident with a dragon) and his sword (with its small, blood thirsty, female spirit) went hunting for evil spirits. The way that he kills their female commanders is what makes this game H. Falling down a building after a hard battle, he meets someone that looked like his long dead princess. She and some friends got into his mess against an evil spirit queen. The ending is like a fairy tale love story. From a web site where somebody was offering copies of this game for sale: AmbivalenZ (Adv game) US$16 Total: 5,085,862 bytes Windows** ** = You have to extract this file to temporary directory then run SETUP.EXE under Windows Requirements: 486 or faster CPU 8MB of RAM or more keyboard and mouse Windows 3.11 or Windows 95 I may sound like a hypocrite, but I've already got a copy, so I'm not going to send this person any money. There was also a picture which is either from the game package or the splash screen. Once running the game, you have 3 menu options at the top of the screen. ???(S) ???(T) ???(H) -???(S) [takes a snapshot] -Version(V) [sets window size; 640*400 seems best] [About box] -???(F) [4 unknown options, possibly sound or music?] The "snapshot" mentioned above is a file created in the game's directory. The name starts at ALCG0000.BMP and the number for the next goes up from there. These are 640*400*256 BMP files. That's why I suggest keeping the 640*400 window size setting; the snapshot files are always that size and the graphics on the screen will therefore match (except for colors sometimes) the snapshot. Exit the game using the Close button on the game window. The easiest way to get the photoshop/see the H pictures is to get the ASLEEP.DAT file from the saved game on Li Sun's site. Unzip it to the game's directory, then start SYSTEM3.EXE again. Now the third option on the main game screen will bring up a menu with "M-MODE" on it. Choose the option that's ABOVE "M-MODE" - it's the only one that has just two symbols. On the next menu choose one of the top 7 items to see a bunch of pictures. Some of these got blood in 'em. The bottom (8th choice) brings you back a level, or you could right-click. If you want to create the ASLEEP.DAT file yourself, you need a binary/hex file editor. The file is 260 ($104) bytes long. Almost all of the content bytes are $00. The only 2 that aren't are the first byte of the file, which is $07, and the 7th byte of the file (offset 06) which is $01. That's all it needs! In fact, I think the 7th byte isn't important, but I left it in just in case. There are some other pictures buried deep in the menu structure of that third main menu option, but nothing really great or H. Can you find the girl with the giant worm? Or the girl with the giant ant? How about the girl in the brown bikini and glasses? There are also two places where there is a really annoying "game" that seems to want you to click the mouse in a particular place on the screen, and shows numbers of the coordinates. The problem with it is figuring out how to finish. I either click madly for several minutes and eventually get GAME OVER, or somehow I "win", but mostly I just exit completely and start over. One annoying behavior of this game is that it sometimes "locks" the mouse so it can't move - the mouse may flicker a bit when you try to move it, but it won't really go anywhere. This makes it impossible to use the snapshot function on the photoshop; you'll have to use something else to get those pictures! Another one is the movement system used on the map of a building. It somehow uses your mouse movement to control where you end up on the map, but I had a LOT of trouble getting it to stop where I wanted. Eventually I just gave up and trusted that the photoshop had all the pictures that I wanted to see already. Li Sun forgot to mention that at some point the sword apparently stabs the albino in the eye so he wears a patch for part of the game. It all gets better at the end though. I really don't have any good advice on playing this game. I got hung up in the building with the "hard battle" that Li Sun mentions. When I've played this game previously, I sometimes get through the building then lose the battle, because the game ends there. That's what I get for guessing my way through combat with demons... If you have anything to add to this file, let me know. Pete Karsanow - bishoujo.helper[AT}sbcglobal{DOT)net http://www.geocities.com/hentaihelper/
