"Tea Society of a Witch" is an "AnimePlay" DVD from Hirameki International. As they advise, this can be played on a PC, but you may be better off with a DVD player (including game consoles like PS2 or Xbox) instead. The chief benefit of playing this on a PC is being able to use a mouse to enter the password codes that are this product's version of a saved game, instead of putting them in by DVD remote. More review at the end of this text file. Apparently this was the first product from Hirameki in the double-wide box. That makes it look more professional, and helps it stand out on store shelves. For this product, the second half of the box is taken up by a boxed art book. This provides some additional background on the female characters, and the kind of artwork you'd expect to find in a "perfect guide" if you could buy one for this game. The outer box also had a colored paper strip that mostly duplicated information on the back of the box, but also emphasized how this could be played on regular DVD players with no installation or difficult commands. The Japanese original for Tea Society was from Front Wing. I noticed wing symbols on Nee and Drill, but there isn't ever a good enough look at Ponica to see if she had one on her hat too. English that is assumed to be transliteration of the Japanese on the title screen says "Majyo no Otya Kai". There is at least one reference to "Witch's Tea Party" within the game, for example the password screen. The Animetric site (www.animetric.com) says in their review that there is a rumor that the Japanese original had more endings, as the English version is missing endings for Megumi and Ponica, and there are several scenes in the game's introduction that aren't encountered in play. Yes, only endings for Nee, Drill & Manamu are available to us. Well, and a fourth "non-ending" that you get if you don't fully pursue one of the three choices. Also, the review states that the 3-letter password "was easy to crack, could predict next one". I'll also agree with the review that "Megumi has thighs the size of Texas"; I think even Drill and Nee do also in the standard front character overlay view, but not in most of the full-screen drawing views. There's no hentai in this title, just a panty shot of Megumi. If that had been left out, this could have been just barely "T" rated. WALKTHROUGH: You'll have to start the game over for each of the three girls that you want to pursue. I don't think that you can mess up by making choices during play except for not consistently picking the same girl each day. But if you want to be certain, pick the choices that I did and you'll get to the endings. for Drill: August 5, chose Drill -> RAA August 6, chose Drill, then "Call out to her right now." / "Let things be." first -> BBA Note that Rokusuke speaks about a meeting with Akiwo that didn't occur. August 7, chose Drill, then "Be the guinea pig." / "Refuse to be the guinea pig." second -> RBA August 8 -> chose Drill, BCA Something seems to be missing between when Akiwo says she can reverse Drill's spell, and the next scene where Rokusuke talks to Nee at the end of the day. August 9 -> chose Drill, RCA August 10 -> chose Drill, then choice "Return to planet Krypton" / "Return to the Magic Kingdom" choice "String rip gate" / "Megumi's used clothes" choice "My mom, of course!" / "Akiwo!" choice "bad mouth him, and she will appear" / "maybe she's gambling at japanese pinball" If you've been following the story at all, the correct answers are obvious. But even if you haven't, the "wrong" ones just give you some silly internal dialogue before jumping back to the correct track. After almost 50 minutes more, you reach the Drill ending ("Happy End"). During that scene with melons on August 10 with Drill, the game says honeydew melon when it's obviously what's called cantaloupe in the USA. for Nee: August 5, chose Nee, choose to help with cleaning eventually to password CAA August 6, chose Nee -> DAA August 7, chose Nee -> EAA August 8, chose Nee -> FAA August 9, chose Nee, then "There's no way I can forgive you." / "Alright... I forgive her." Second -> GAA August 10, chose Nee, then "You look kind of like a little kid." / "You look really cute." / "Your figure is..." Second -> HAA August 11, chose Nee, after a really long sequence then "Tell your feelings to her frankly." / "Ask Nee how she feels." / "Say something else" Second -> eventually (over 1 hour!) to Nee ending ("Happy End") Some of this has inconsistencies between several days passing or only one day passing. Note that Nee ending explains one of the voice sequences played during the game start, by adding a graphic that assigns it to a child Nee and a boy that's probably Rokusuke as a child. for Manamu: August 5, choose Manamu -> eventually to password BEA August 6, chose Manamu -> BIA August 7, chose Manamu then choice of "Oh well. I'll lend a hand" / "I'll just cheer her on from here." first -> BMA August 8, chose Manamu -> BQA August 9, chose Manamu -> BUA (Manamu never showed up that day, just Akiwo and Nana) August 10, chose Manamu -> BYA (again no Manamu, just Nana) August 11, chose Manamu, then choice of "I prefer cheerful girls" / "It doesn't really matter". First -> B3A August 12, chose Manamu -> BAB August 13, chose Manamu, then choice of "I don't have a girlfriend" / "Well, there is a girl that I like." Second choice -> choice of Nee / Manamu / Nana Manamu -> BEB August 14, chose Manamu -> BIB August 15, chose Manamu -> eventually to Manamu ending. Unlike the Nee or Drill endings, this one doesn't say "Happy End" anywhere that I noticed. for "nobody": If you "mix" girls by not picking the same one every day, I expect you'll get the "Bad End" with none of them. I found it once by going to the last password for Manamu, then picking Nee from then on. I got several extra scenes and passwords, but nothing special, and finally a "Bad End" screen for a second. Review: Graphics in the game, after the title animations, have a border around them reminiscent of some Game Boy Color titles, which may help with being able to read the subtitles on some TV monitors. One unique feature of this game is the infrequent use of an isometric stage and animated super-deformed characters. They definitely break up the stereotypical presentation of figures, slightly changed for emotions, pasted over a fixed background that we're so used to seeing in Japanese adventures. Password system isn't set up so you can skip to August 5 and start picking the 3 girls. You have to replay from the beginning of the game each time you want to see a different ending. The list of passwords above should help though. Music is often too loud, and often covers up the girls' voices. "Japanese pinball" is in subtitles and one choice, but the voice says pachinko - not a bad translation but it patronizes those of us who know a little Japanese culture. Not a bad effort, but the graphic style is too "lolicon" for me. I like the animations, and wish they had been used even more. Not enough adult content for the "17 Up" rating. And an awful lot of waiting, even when played at 2x speed, to get to decision points or the endings. If you have anything to add to this file, let me know.
