DVD-Toshiba/Daiei. Region 2 DVD release, widescreen, uncut, English subtitles, and Special Features. LaserDisc: Released by Sandy Frank, a double feature with 'Ganera vs. Guiron' in 1988. Fullscren. LaserDisc: Released by Synaspe in 1999. Japanese with English subtitles, widescreen, under name 'Giant Monster Gamera.' DVD- Released by Alpha Video, fullscreen, on May 23, 2003. Includes still images and six chapter stops. War of the Monsters (1966) a.k.a. Gamera tai DaiKaiju Barugon AIP-TV VHS-Sandy Frank released the film as "Gamera vs. Barugon" in the early 1980s. DVD- Alpha Video released the movie on DVD under the American title "War of the Monsters" on June 19, 2003. Click here to order it on DVD. DVD-Released on crisp Region 2 DVD. Notes: Alpha's "War of the Monsters" is the only DVD Region 1 copy of AIP's "War of the Monsters" available. Return of the Giant Monsters (1967) a.k.a. Gamera tai DaiKaiju Gayos AIP-TV VHS-Sandy Frank DVD-Released on Region 2 DVD. LaserDisc: Released by Sandy Frank, double feature with 'Gamera vs. Zigra,' in 1988. Fullscreen. New dub. Notes: The American A.I.P. version, "Return of the Monsters," is currently copyright of MGM studios. So, a Region 1 DVD release of "Return of the Giant Monsters" can only be possibly released by one of MGM's "Midnight Movies" (i.e. "Reptilicus" DVD) Destroy All Planets (1969) a.k.a. Gamera tai DaiKaiju Viras VHS- "Destroy All Planets" has never been released on VHS. DVD- Retromedia released this movie as a "Double Feature" with the fifth film, "Attack of the Monsters," in January 2003. Extras included was a "Gamera Gallery." Pretty good condition DVD release, but not the best. DVD- Releases by Alpha Video on July 23, 2003. Unlike the Retromedia DVD, Alpha's DVD only included one movie. Originally, Alpha Video listed the movie as black and white (read "Notes"), but later added that the film is in fact color. Notes: Black and White copies of "Destroy All Planets" do exist. Heck, a black and white copy of "Attack of the Mushroom People" even exist. Attack of the Monsters (1969) Gamera tai Guillon (1969) AIP-TV VHS- Sandy Frank released the film as "Gamera vs. Guiron" in the late 1980s. Sandy Frank's VHS is out of print. VHS-Neptune Media released the English dubbed, AIP version on 2000. In widescreen. VHS-Neptune Media released the Japanese version with English subtitles in 2000. In widescreen. DVD-Retromedia Films, releases in January 2003, double billed with the fourth Gamera film, Destroy All Planets. Fullscreen, no English subtitles. Included is a special feature entitled "The A.I.P. Years," which includes pictures, lobby cards, etc. from the years of American International Pictures releasing Gamera films. LaserDisc: Released by Sandy Frank, a double feature with 'Gamera,' in 1988. Fullscreen. New dub. Gamera tai Jiger (1970) Gamera vs. Monster X (1970) AIP-TV VHS-Never released on Home Video. DVD-Rumored to be the next Gamera movie to be released by Retromedia Films, distributors of the Gamera Double Feature. DVD-Released on a excellent Region 2 DVD, widescreen, and loaded with extras! Notes: This is the best of the Showa Gamera series, and has yet to be released on VHS or DVD in the U.S. |
