The Silence on the Web is Deafening !

The Catchcry is Multimedia. Graphics abound, yet 99% of Web sites I visit are strangely silent!
Silence is not Golden!
I am truly shocked (be it pleasantly), when I hear music on a Web site.
Wavs, java, shockwave all take too long to download, Midi is the only way to embed quick quality music on a Web page (especially with the new streaming midi players).
Midi can be heard on a Wavetable card (preferable), or even on a 16bit or 8bit soundcard (FM synthesis is far better than silence!).
There are many great Midi sites, so I will concentrate on Short Midi files, 10k or less.
I will also feature Midi SFX (Sound Effects), of which there seems to be near total absence.
I will also mention Mods, although these are generally much larger than Midi's, you can incorporate your own samples, which can include voices.

Midi Files

hbsfx1a.mid(New Age type Background Music)-5k

This is an interesting midi file (tight.mid), it sounds and looks like a sine wave, but if you reduce the tempo to 1, it is compsed of individual piano notes scaling up and down to simulate a sine wave. this makes me wonder, that if a sine wave can be simulated, than why not any "wav" file?
tight.mid(try different voices and tempo to change the effect)

Want to create, but not musically inclined?

Join the club, I think I'm tone deaf, but I love music. Get a Midi Editor/Sequencer (from Harmony Central MIDI Resources), and modify an existing midi file. Do this only with public domain midi files! This is also a good way to cut a big midi file down to size. Grab a P.D. midi file, change the voices, adjust the tempo and volume, until you like the results. For a big file, do an "unplugged" version, and cut out tracks containing instruments that you think might be uneccesary, this will cut the file down to size, as well as pesonalising a midi song.
