He was born in 1754. In 1771 he married Maria Beatrice d'Este (1750-1829). In 1803 he succeeded his father in law, Ercole III d'Este, as Duke FERDINANDO of Modena, Reggio, Mirandola and Breisgau (the later ceded to Baden 1805). He died in 1806, aged 52.
