the uprising in warsaw in 1944 - the uprising in poland .

in the summer 1944, the russian army moved forward against warsaw. the german army were withdrawing.

but unfortunately the poles comitted the mistake of starting an uprising in warsaw to soon. the polish underground-army started an uprising, and fought for 63 days, invain alone against the german superior forces.

the russians did not arrive, and the germans came down hard on the uprising. a big part of the town was destroyed. and woman and children brutaly murdered. over 200.000 civilians died under the hard fights in the streets.

at last on the 2. october 1944 the survived rebels surrendered to the germans.
