solsjenitsyn - a political dissident

aleksandr solsjenitsyn : author and political dissident (1918).

solsjenitsyn has been described as russias conscience of 1900-decade. he became worldfamous with one stroke. when he in 1962 published the book - a day in the life of ivan denitsovitjs - the book is about the daily life in a internment camp in sibiria, where the sovjeits political prisoners was deported. it describes an undignified, inhuman and lawless life. where life first of all is about obeying and adjusting, to avoid punishment, there maybe would mean certain death, or marking of you for the rest of your life.

in 1968 the big novel - the first circel - and later - cancer ward - was published. it was about scientists, who where political prisoners. they had to decide whether they should work for the regime, or get sendt back to the brutal conditions in the work-camps.

in 1973 sosjenitsyn published the first part of - the gulag archipelago - which was the direct cause of his arrest and exspel of the country. the book built on talks and letterexchange with former prisoners or there family in soviet. where there apear a picture of lawlesness. it describe the big system of prisons and workcamps in sibiria. different parts of the book describes the arrest, interrogation, conviction, transport and imprisonment of GULAG-victims.

i 1970 modtog solsjenitsyn nobelprisen, men han kunne f�rst modtage den i 1974.

solsjenitsyn has studied mathematics and physics in rostov.in 1945 he was arrested and sendt to a camp for anti-stalinistic remarks, in 1953 he was expelled to kazakstan, where he work for three years as a schoolteacher. thereafter he was rehabilitated.

since 1958 solsjenitsyn in secret had collected materiale about the camps, for a documentary story. it became the book - the gulag archipelago -. for this book he was expelled from sovjiet in 1974.

he returend to russia in 1994 sfter 20 yars expel. solsjenitsyn now work as a political and moralphilosofic commentator with great respect in russia.
