the military coup in greece 1967 - the military dictatorship 1967-74.

in april 1967 the military-junta took over power. the junta consisted of generals and colonels under the leading of papadopoulos.

there was started a resistans against the junta, where one of the leaders were mikis theodorakis. he was persecuted and put in jail by the junta. and later he was sent in forced exile.

king constantin cooperated with the military-junta. and realized that, that was mistake too late. and fell in disgrace with the people of greece.

in 1974 a group of officers decided, to remove the junta, and they asked the democratic politician in exile, karamanlis, to come home. and the first democratic election after the military-junta could take place.
