What's New at the Henri Matisse Art Gallery 7/10/99 Wow! I didn't realize I'd neglected this page so much! I'm working double time today to try to get some of the major problems fixed. So far, I've fixed the broken links (a couple servers that I house images on went down without me being aware of it), put the "new" images onto their alphabetical pages, and a few other little things. I'm also going to try to find the time to add more links to other Matisse sites (for prints, background info, etc.) Oh, and if you've emailed me any time in the past year or so, you've noticed that I haven't written back I'm so sorry! I'm going to try to catch up with a little bit of the most recent mail, but if it's been a while since you've written, I probably won't get to your letter. Your best bet is to write to me again I'm sincerely going to try to keep up with the mail. Be patient, though, because I get dozens of letters each day. 7/17/98 I added around 40 new images to the Gallery today. Some are brand new images, while others are better quality (I think) scans than were previously listed. For now, these new pictures can only be found on the new pictures page. I hope to put them in the alphabetical list soon. Enjoy! 5/23/98 Today I added a links page to sources on the web for Matisse prints. I get tons of email each day asking "Where can I buy *****? Hopefully, these online dealers can help you out. Right now, I only have 6 dealers--hopefully, I will be able to include more soon. Also, I've been working on a page about the other Matisse pages available across the web. It should be done soon (*fingers crossed*!) Let me know if this is helpful or if you know of a dealer I missed. 4/30/98 Today I reformatted the front page of the gallery. I moved the image links to the top of the page for easier access and made a separate page for the brief Matisse biography that I had. The most important change, though, is that I have added a mailing list to the site. If you sign up for it, you will be automatically notified when I make major changes to the gallery! This is a new service, so if you try it, let me know what you think! The update letters won't be sent on a set schedule--I'll just send one out when I do something new and exciting. I hope you like it! Check the front page for signup information. 4/20/98 With graduation only two short months away, I have finally decided where to move the gallery to. The final decision was to put it on Geocities, since they offer 6 MB of space. The Gallery can now be found at http://www.geocities.com/Paris/LeftBank/4208/. I hope this new arrangement works out for you! Enjoy the gallery! 2/27/98 Please take notice of the new email address on the main page. The new address for the gallery is [email protected]. All of the other pages will soon be changed to reflect the new address. Also, I will be graduating in June, and this account will not be available to me anymore. Over Spring Break (sometime in March/April) I will be moving the Gallery to a different server. It will still be available here until June, but please start using the new URL ASAP--I'll let you know where it will be (probably Geocities) as soon as I know. With the move should come new images, too! 12/10/97 I want to take the time to apologize for not updating the gallery in so long. It has been a very busy quarter at school. I hope to get a lot done over the winter break, though. Also, I want to apologize for the back-up in answering email. I get a lot of letters each day about this gallery. I will try to answer some over break, but if you had a really important question that I have not answered, please write to me again. I will warn you now, though, that I do not have any information on where to find prints, how to identify a Matisse work that you may own, or where the closest museum is that exhibits Matisse's works. This is just a hobby for me--I have no inside information. I will check around, though, and try to get some info for you all. If you take the time to write, I should at least take some time to find out the answer to your questions. One hint, though--in cases of identification questions, check your local library. There should be lots of books with Matisse's works there, and it is probably easier and more effective to check there than on the web. 8/27/97 I've added an index to the bottom of each image page to make navigation easier. Thanks for the suggestion Jimmy! Also, I changed the orientation of two images--Composition: The Yellow Curtain (thanks Jimmy) and The Embrace (thanks Thomas!), since they were both horizontal instead of vertical. Added an unknown image to the Gallery. If you can identify it, please let me know! 8/18/97 I added a guestbook to the Matisse Gallery. Sign it and let me know what you think of the gallery! 8/12/97 I've added around 50 new images to the gallery. You can look them on the alphabetical pages, or see them all together here. 8/7/97 As of today, I've totally redesigned the Gallery. I've tried to create a happier, more Matisse-like atmosphere, and I got rid of those awful frames! It is definitely a work in progress, but I would much appreciate your comments and suggestions. 8/6/97 After a big error that caused me to lose all of the title data for my frames version, I have the frames version fixed and improved. Titles are now in alphabetical order. 8/6/97 Also, I finally have all of the images in the frames version linked to pages owned and maintained by myself.
