canvassing for Ron Paul
I went around the neighborhood today with a friend, armed with official precinct lists of voters in my precinct. If you know where to go, sign in and print out the list, you can find out much information, which is of course confidential and used only for the purpose of canvassing for the Ron Paul campaign.

We walked several streets, one of which was behind my area, but seperated by a big hedge. I didn't know there was a nice neighborhood near by! Not that my street is not nice, but this is really nice.

We actually talked to a few people. We started by telling them we were updating our voter registration list (true) and asked if they were registered. (which we already knew) Then we asked if they were Democrat or Republican. (also knew) Some people said "Independent" (not true, they just didn't want to tell the truth. Embarrassed? didn't want to get into it?)

Then we would ask if they knew who they wanted to vote for president? Most pretended they didn't know, so we would give them a brochure. We did find a couple of people that were either enthusiastic for Ron Paul, or very interested in more information.

Most people were not home, or did not want to answer the door. And we tried so hard not to look like missionaries or salesmen. We did meet one person who wanted to invite us into her kitchen, but we declined. (way too trusting). Another was a sweet older lady that was telling us that she was just able to start reading again because of her eye trouble. I guess she liked having some one to talk to. The funniest guy was the one that did not say much, but when I gave him a brochure, and mentioned that Dr. Paul wanted to do away with the IRS, he said "Wants to do away with the IRS?" and proceeded to tear the brochure in half. ????

I have never yet met anyone that liked the IRS. Perhaps he works for the government. But most people were polite.

The funny thing is that people don't realize how much information is public, and think that they can say, "that's private" (but its not really), when you ask a question, like are you Democrat or Republican.

Even Google keeps your info for 18 months, and if people know how to access it, they can find out a lot of information about you. So, if I use Google map for directions, I never put my home address in as starting point. Even though thats public information.

Its a small world and getting smaller by the minute. At least Ron Paul would work to get government out of our life, and certainly resist a national ID card.

I don't trust candidates that like that idea. (666?)
