Outcome G4.1: Will be able to adjust teaching strategies and techniques based on reflective thought. Raising a class of students that are narrow, uniform, and inflexible brings to mind a scene from The Stepford Wives or Children of the Corn. Our goal as Walden Scholar-Practitioners should be to enhance our teaching to promote out of the box thinking. In week four of Habits of Mind we focused on a lesson instilling a sense of wonderment in our students. Fortunately, this was a course at the beginning of the school year. Realizing the impact that wonderment has on a lesson had me constantly reflecting on probable lessons. Although I was not able to incorporate the Spider Lesson discussed in the paper, many other valuable lessons came from this experience. The artifact chosen to accompany this standard shows the students enthralled and learning with simple bubbles. This lesson had the teacher taking the chance of using a somewhat different approach to circumference. The results were fun, engaging, and educational. |
