The 1999-2000 season was one of a changing of the guard for the Rangers as many Senior players retired from football at the end of the 1998-1999 season. When the Rangers started pre-season training in late September the team consisted of 8 returning players and 20 rookies (first time players). By training twice a week the team came together and developed a strong team spirit, seniors mixing well with the rookies and sharing the experience freely.

The season opened for the team in an encounter with the Metro Lions which would provide an excellent gauge as to how the team would perform in the season. The result was a hard fought
14-14 draw which showed that the team could adjust from a training to a game situation.

The next game was against one of the preseason favourites, the Manukau Islanders. This turned out to be a tight hard hitting affair that saw the Rangers come out of the game with a
14-12 win and made the other teams think twice when playing us.

The following week had the Rangers engaged in a contest with the Wildcats, one of the dominant teams over the past few years. All players pulled out a big effort for this game as they wanted to prove the previous weeks result was not a fluke with the result being a
30-6 win for the Rangers.

Up next was the defending Kiwi Bowl champions, the Waikato Spears. This game turned into a defensive struggle and when the final whistle went, both teams had earned a well deserved
6 all draw.

The Central Jaguars reared their heads in week 6 and stuck it to the Rangers for the first half before the Rangers pullled away to a
42-6 victory.

The Rangers next two games were both against the Hamilton Hawks, the first ending in a nil all draw, while the second produced a
12-6 win to the Rangers.

Our final regular season game was against the Waikato Spears which turned out to be our first loss for the season. Going to the playoffs we had a record of 4 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss which put us in 3rd place and into a sudden death knock out against the Wildcats. Now that it was down to the business of the end of the season, the players were asked for a special effort to take the club to the Kiwi Bowl final to which they responded with a comprehensive
34-0 victory over the Wildcats.

5th February 2000 was the date of the 18th Kiwi Bowl and saw the Rangers pitted against the only team which had beaten them during the entire 1999-2000 season, the Waikato Spears.
All of the Rangers players put everything that they had into this game and produced an outstanding effort that fell just short of the target with the final score being 26-16 to the Waikato Spears. The 18th Kiwi Bowl was the most exciting game for years and produced excellent displays from both the Rangers and Spears players alike. Thus ended the season for the Henderson Rangers as the Kiwi Bowl runner-ups but at the same time laid a good foundation for the future as the rookie players will only improve with a year under their belts.
