| In this module you will consider arguments for and against the existence of God. |
| Our core text, Religion and Life, (fourth edition, by Victor W. Watson, published by edexcel, 2005), tells us that you need to know, understand and consider: The reasons why people believe in God, reasons which are rooted in: religious upbringing religious experience the appearance of design in the world/universe causation/first cause argument the search for meaning and purpose the presence of religion in the world Why some people do not believe in God; in order to do this we need to understand the effects of: non-religious explanations of the world/universe non-religious explanations of miracles unanswered prayers Finally, we need to consider the Problem of Evil and Suffering, what it is, why it causes problems for religious believers, and why it is the argument usually put forward by those who do not believe in God to disprove the existence of God and finally how Christians respond to such an argument. You are then expected to present your own arguments for or against, or indeed, both points of view, in a formal presentation to your peers, when you efforts will be assessed. Finally, you will sit an end of module 'mock exam' for which you will be given a G.C.S.E. grade, based upon the Exam Board's Criteria, reflecting your breadth of knowledge, depth of understanding and progression in key skill areas: defining, describing, explaining and evaluation technique. Hopefully you will do well, in both assessment areas! |
