Germination |
The germination of hemp seed can be done in several different ways, the seed can be placed directly into the growing medium, soil or rockwool then watered and kept damp but not saturated as the seed requires air as well as water, the seed starts to germinate when it as absorbed enough water and the root starts to break out of its shell. The seed only needs to be 5mm under the surface of the growing medium and placed in a warm position.
My favourite way, and i think the best is to use two saucers with a piece of tissue placed on the bottom saucer then the seed put onto the tissue, then you can dampen the tissue and place the other upturned saucer on top so it looks like a flying saucer. Keep the saucers in a warm position such as on the mantle in your room, check the seeds are damp and have not dried out, once the seeds start to sprout transplant into your growing medium, if your using soil use the small peat seedling plant pots so you don't damage the roots when you transfer them into larger pots, as you can place the peat pot straight in and the roots will grow through into the soil.
You can also germinate your seeds out doors, directly into yhe soil were they will be grown, this method of germination is less reliable, you may loose many seeds. |

Seedlings |

The seedlings should be treated delicately, if you need to move the plant do not handle it by the stem as this may kill it. When introducing your seedlings to your artificial light source, High pressure sodium 400 watt lamp is the recomended ideal, do not place the seedling directly under the light until it's established some growth, then the distance from the top of the plant to the light should be 60cm's. The chances are you will have to use canes to support your plants, if the plants get too lanky when still seedlings they're not getting enough light. |

Plants |

Most quality f1 hybrid plants need around 45 to 50 days of vegative growth in 18 hours of light, 6 hours of darkness per day before flowering is induced by reducing the plants light to 13 hours, when this is done the darkness period should be totally dark with out any exposure to any sudden or accidental bursts of light as this may cause plant abnormalities. Once you can distinguish the male from the female plants, the males have to be destroyed before they pollinate the females, as you want the females to produce good quantities of resin high in THC in the flowering tops this is called sinsemillia. When the plants start flowering, carry on growing for another 4 to 8 weeks until one third of the little white hairs known as pistiles have turned red or brown. Remove the bracts they shoud be laiden with resin high in THC, leave to dry in a warm place until the stems break like dried twigs, keep your crop in an air tight container.
This is basic information, more detail growing methods can be obtained free of charge from the internet or from a good grow book.
