These are the photos of my 1969 Charger 500. This is a T7 Bronze metallic 440 4-speed version, of which supposely there are 26 with this drivetrain and 6 of this color. I've owned the car for nearly 2 years now and have enjoyed every moment in her. I've done some detailing in the engine compartment and interior, but she pretty much holds the pigment she was given in '85. This Charger 500 is a great crusier and she's seen many miiles on the roads since owning her. It's funny to see the reactions I get with her at the local Sat. night cruises and show-n-shines I attend. Most people don't have a clue what a Charger 500 and walk on by thinking she's a pretty Charger, some think I've done some major mod's to her and then there are those that know exactly what she is and make a beeline to check her out. Needless to say, I have tons of fun with her and she's my first 4-speed Charger.

As many Mopar fans know, Dodge and Plymouth had a great run in the '69-'70 NASCAR Grand National Season. It wasn't called Winston Cup then. But, what some DON'T know is the first AeroCar that started it first. It was the 1969 Dodge Charger 500. It is said that the '69 Charger 500 was the first vehicle that was wind-tunneled tested to research aerodynamic effects on the superspeedways. Back then, Dodge couldn't do any more to the powerplant 426 HEMI, so to go faster, it had to "cheat" the wind. The outcome was the "fastback" Charger 500. It sported the new flush grille, fastback rear glass and the windshield wind deflectors. In 1969, NASCAR had a rule that 500 street production vehicles on similiar design and modifications had to be produced and distributed in order to run the car in Grand National races. At the 1969 Daytona 500, the Charger 500 came in second by half a car-length, so that wasn't good enough for Chrysler. From that day forward, development was underway for the more prominent winged Charger Daytona. Because of this, it is said that only 392 of the required 500 units were built. The Charger 500 did fair rather well during the '69 season posting many victories at the less-than-one-mile tracks..
