This is my '68 Hemi Charger R/T. I first got the car back in, ohhhhhh, I think it was about '95 or '96 when I traded my '70 Charger R/T 6bbl car for it. Wasn't able to do much with it then for I was in college, then I graduated and started my career which required me to be in the field 4 weeks out of 6... Typical, no money then, lots of time, lost of money now, but no time.... Well, finally, I'm in an office job now and can do it... It's in the body work and paint phase after being acid dipped. The dipping was a money-well-spent thing. The body came out like what we thought it would and it's wonderful to know there isn't ANY hidden rust.. Now, it's all clean sheetmetal. The car is sparsely optioned out. It's LL1 Dark Turquoise metallic, pearl white interior with a black vinyl top/stripe delete. I'm taking the liberty of changing the vinyl top color to white w/ white Bubble bee stripe. It should be a great combo with the pearl white interior. The tranny is a 727B and believe it or not, it's a non-sure-grip 3:32.. Needless to say, it'll be getting a sure-grip unit in it. The other liberty I'm taking is the wheels. Instead of the 15x6 steelies with hub caps, I'm going with a set of Stockten reproduction 15x7 chrome magnum 500's........ I'm hoping the paint job will be done in the mid to late Spring time frame for which that'll be the time I start rebuilding the motor and tranny...
Here's the '68 before I started the disassembly. Original paint covered most the sheetmetal, so when the dipping was done, there were no surprices...
Below is the '68 right after the dipping. It's amazing what the process does and it was the best $1450 I spent thus far. Won't even get dirty DA'ing the car. It should go on the rotiserrie soon. He's started the doors and front fenders as of Dec. 2002. The body panels that need attention are you typical ones; the trunk floor pan, rear valance, rear valance corners, bottom of quarters behind the wheel opening and a spot under the rear seat. The rest of the unibody is in great shape and the doors, front fenders, trunk lid and hood are great.
