About Our Cause
We are absolutely opposed to Gerald Tremblay's proposed  name change of Park Avenue.

1) Park Avenue is a historic street with rich tradition and heritage. It was founded over a century ago, and it's name is fittingly derived from Mount Royal Park which the Avenue borders. The community which was founded along Park Avenue is very ethnically diverse, and rich in immigrant cultures. With such deep roots in the community, Park Avenue is much more than just a name, it has developed into a subculture unto itself.

2) The public was never consulted about the name change. Mayor Gerald Tremblay has unilaterally decided to change the name of Park Avenue to Robert Bourassa Avenue. This decision was made behind closed doors, unbeknownst to the public. Do citizens not have any say? Why were we not consulted? The very fact that Gerald Tremblay feels he can change such a vital and significant street name unilaterally is reason enough to protest. Tremblay is an elected official and must show respect for the community. He must stop acting like a dictator.

3)Robert Bourassa was a consensus builder who avoided confrontation. In any situation, he would take the middle ground and look for a compromise which would appeal to all parties. He would not be happy with Gerald Tremblays plan to "honor" him in this arbitrary, divisive and unpopular manner. It does him no honor to take an action in his name which is resented by the vast majority of Montrealers. Make Bourassa proud, lets find a compromise.
