9/15/05 :Taunton Gazette:In July, Carney told the Taunton Daily Gazette that he expected the facility to generate about 200 new round trips of hauling trucks a day on Route 138. He now says that number will be lower.
8/14/05 :Boston Globe:"No matter", said Carney in response. "I'm not asking Raynham if they need this," he said."I need it for my business."
7/18/05 :Taunton Gazette:Carney submitted his proposal July 7 to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. The agency can take up to 30 days to review the application.
3/4/05 :Taunton Gazette:"Im looking to the future," Carney said. The plant has a capacity of handling 2,500 tons a day. Using Carney's own numbers that's 1100 truck trips daily! In a ten hour period that averages to one truck every 30 seconds six days a week!
3/3/05 :Taunton Gazette: RAYNHAM - The state's environmental chief is allowing the developer of a Broadway trash plant to proceed with his project without the scrutiny of a full impact report.
Standard Times: TRASH TRUCK FLIPS ON ROUTE 495
2/23/05 :Taunton Gazette: Neighbors of a proposed 1,000-ton a day solid waste facility at the dog track won't get a chance to air their concerns about traffic, trash and noise to state environmental officials.
1/23/05:Boston Globe: Selectman of Raynham said the two-lane Route 138 cannot handle all the traffic."It really hasn't changed in width in 50 years," he said."They used to call it 'death highway,' and that was 50 years ago."
Please we need your help perserve Raynham and stop the proposed trash transfer station at the Raynham/Taunton Greyhound Track, There are too many concerns, including the following:
We already have a waste transfer station in our town.
Increased truck traffic on Route 138 & through out the town.
Increased danger to students at bus stops and children playing.
Air pollution from the trucks and transfer station.
Noise pollution from the trucks and transfer station.
Smell from the trucks and transfer station.
Trash flying around from the trucks and transfer station
Environmental damage, including contamination of Hockomock Swamp.
The new transfer station would be approved to accept 1,000 tons of trash daily, doubling the amount of trash handled daily in Raynham.
