Florea:
Mrs. Dixon:
Narrator:
Narrator-The old Dixon house was not something that you would call inviting. It sat on the edge of town and had only one inhabitant old Mrs. Dixon. She had been there as long as anyone could remember. Parents told their children not to go near the place, the same way that their parents had told them. But this didnt stop the curious Florea Low from venturing near the place.
(walking towards house)
Florea- HmmI remember my mom telling me about how her mother, my grandmother, would refer to Mrs. Dixon as old, and that was quite a long time ago! I wonder whats going on? Why doesnt anyone ever go to that house? Its only a little old lady, nothing to be frightened of. I think Ill go check it out.
(arrives at house)
Narrator-Florea walked up to the porch of the house.
Florea- I wonder what I should talk aboutOh well, when the moment comes, Im sure something will come to mind. Jeezthis house sure is creepy, but Im not frightenedIm not frightened(pause)Its just an old house. One thats going to fall down soon, from the look of it.
Mrs. Dixon-What was that, dear?
Narrator-Florea looked around trying to find out where the words were coming from. She didnt see anything. The voice had also been quite strong, not something you would expect from an old lady.
Florea-(in quiet voice) Excuse me?
Mrs. Dixon-I asked what you said. Come over here where I can hear you better. My ears arent what they used to be, and you have a very soft voice, child.
Narrator-Florea looked around again, and this time saw something that looked like a bundle of rags scrunched down in the corner of one of the chairs.
Mrs. Dixon-Come on, dear, come talk to me.
Narrator- Florea slowly approached the figure in the chair, and thought about how much it looked like one of those homeless people that she saw in the city.
Mrs. Dixon- Thats better. Now you can talk to me.
Florea- Your voice, it sounds so soothing.
Mrs. Dixon-(laughs evilly) Sit
(Mrs. Dixon extends hand out of rags and clutches Florea's arm)
Mrs. Dixon-Isnt this cozy?
BREAK
Narrator-When Florea finally left the house, she had no idea how long she had been there and couldnt remember what they had talked about. She wandered towards her house feeling light-headed, but happy.
Florea-Her voice was so rich and wonderful, I want to hear it again. Shes such a lovely lady. How on Earth could anyone be afraid of her? And why does everyone say not to go near the place? Mrs. Dixons as harmless as a newborn calf.
Narrator-But little did Florea know that she was dealing with a witch.
