“Geez, it sure is dark out here,” my friend Rick said.
The only light was from the glow of the huge silvery moon. We could hear the owls hooting in the night. It was a typical Halloween.
The rest of the ride was in silence. We were in a very eerie place. I figured we must have made a wrong turn somewhere, because my sports car was almost out of gas ,and it seemed as if we were getting closed in by the dark gloomy trees.
“Shoot, the car just ran out of fuel!” I exclaimed, “Is there anyone around that could help us?”
“I don’t think so,” Rick said.
We hung around the car for a while kicking and screaming at it.
“Okay, this isn’t doing us any good. Maybe there’s a house around here somewhere. Rick you go look over there,” I ordered pointing, “and I’ll look over here.”
“Oh my gosh,” Rick began to exclaim, “Sean, you have to come see this!”
“What is it?” I asked.
Then I saw it. A huge mansion covered in horrible cobwebs and vines. The whole house looked like it could collapse any minute. The yard was overgrown, and there was a perilous look to the place. I usually don’t get scared that easily, but I was nervous about this house. I think Rick felt the same way. We had a bad feeling about it.
“Well there’s only one thing we can do,” Rick exclaimed.
“What’s that?” I asked.
“Go and ask for help.”
“No way, I’m not going in there.”
In the end Rick won the fight and I was forced to enter the creepy old joint.
The fallen brown leaves crumpled under our feet as we walked to the door. Then came an ominous silence that made our blood run cold. I could only imagine all of the frightening things that we were getting into.
When we finally got to the door, Rick made me knock. It opened instantaneously, but no one was there.
“Let’s get out of here!” I started to to run but Rick grabbed me by the arm.
“Someone has to be in here,” he said.
The inside of the house was dusty and reeked of rotted carcasses. White cloths were on all of the the furniture.
“This place is spooky. Let’s go now,” I begged.
“No! Come on, don’t be a chicken,” Rick said as we made our way upstairs.
Just then we heard long wails of a restless ghost.
The stairs were really creaky, and I was surprised they didn’t give way to our weight. CRASH! A gross bloody hand came from the stairs and grabbed my leg.
“Help! Help me, Rick!” I cried out.
He quickly ran down the stairs and freed me from the hand’s grasp.
We heard more wails as the house seemed to get darker and darker.
Then, a glow started on the wall right in front of us. It began to form a human shape of a boy in ragged clothes. Rick finally agreed that we should get out of there. I was terrified and wanted to be home, snuggling in my covers.
When we got downstairs all of my friends popped out like popcorn and shouted “SURPRISE!” I was so ecstatic and flabbergasted that I shrieked a cry that could probably be heard for miles.
My birthday had been the day before and Rick had planned the whole thing. The birthday party was awesome. There was cake and banners and I got a lot of neat presents. Rick also told me that the ghost was just a projection.
Ooooooooo! There was another wail that we heard before, only this time it had a different sound to it. “What the,” Rick started…
