demolition reveals years of paint -- click to view the huge JPEG version
One of the reasons I feel compelled to take pictures of the highway signage and urban-planning schemes around me is that they are so in flux these days. Much of downtown Tuscaloosa is certainly being transformed. While parking hastles do not seem to diminish, the variety and types of downtown stores and services are changing. Variety is going the way of the dodo bird and services are increasingly real estate and government/law-oriented and less and less wigs, suits, bedding and shoe repair.

A few days after this wall was revealed, it was repainted a wonderfully vibrant and alive brown... Will anything beibg built now, during the age of downtown revitalizations, survive to provide character in the coming decades or will downtown here be the same as downtown anywhere?
