Dearest Dolly,

Hi!  Hello!  Sorry ha if we dont write you often.  Anyway, its already vacation and we will try to make up for it.  We received your parcel.  We got everything including the perfume, bag, pants and belt.

Our graduation was this afternoon.  I have sad news for you.  I was not in the honor roll.  It should have been all right if I was a newcomer at the school, but I wasnt there for the whole third year of high school.  It was already Second Grading Period when Lina and I transferred.  One of the qualifications in the honor roll is at least two years of residency at the school where the student is graduating.  If they were just looking at the grades, I should have been the valedictorian, but I was disqualified due to the residency requirement.  The principal and the school administration sent for Auntie Tita and explained everything to us.  I cried when I first learned this.  I think I wept for two days.  I was expecting to get a place in the honor roll.  I was the most outstanding student in Third Year.  And in Fourth Year, I am the first in ranking.  My average grade is 87.58%, while the next in line is only 86%+.  I also topped the NCEE.  I was the only one who got 99%.  It didnt really matter if I wasnt the valedictorian.  I already knew even before that I might not get it since I was a newcomer.  I was hoping for at least an Honorable Mention, but I didnt get any.  Hinayang na hinayang ako.  But thats fine.  Theyve explained everything to me.  They told me that I would be given two medals on graduation, but they gave me three, instead.  The last one was a surprise.  1) PTCA Gold Medal, since I topped the NCEE, 2) University Lions Club Medal Award, for being the Model Student of the Year, including cash money of P50.00, and 3) the surprise, Gold Medal for getting the Highest Scores in Post Tests in almost all the subjects.  Auntie Charito went to my graduation and she put the medals around my neck.

Weve exchanged only fifty dollars out of the money you sent us.  The exchange rate is only P8.00.  Hindi na kami naghanda.  Why bother, when we are already short because of school expenses.  Besides, I was out all day because the honor students invited me and my classmates at their homes.  We went to four houses this afternoon.  Para nga kaming name-myesta.  I was tired by the end of the day.  But thats all right.  We are just taking this last chance to be together before we finally part ways.  We are all very close.  Vibes kaming lahat, boys and girls alike.  Also, when they learned that I didnt make it to the honor roll, they sympathized and cried with me.

Our graduation ball will be held at Lions Club in Taft Avenue tomorrow.  Auntie Charito has said yes.  Its supposed to be stay-in, but I wont.  I dont want Uncle Gene to get mad.

Sige ha.  Take care!  We love you.

Love lots,
Irene
