A Brief History


8000 B.C.
Cannabis Sativa recorded for its use in making hemp
rope in China.
1500 B.C.
Cannabis Sativa used for recreational, religious and
medical purposes in the Middle East.
1900-1929 A.D.
Mexico familiar with Cannabis Sativa. After the Mexican
Revolution of 1910, many Mexican immigrants entered the
US. They brought with them Cannabis, and introduced the
culture to the recreational use of Marijuana.


Terrible crimes such as rape and murder were attributed
to Mexicans who were using Marijuana. Many
anti-marijuana campaigns occur, most using this same tactic.

1930-1936 A.D.
The Great Depression acts as a catalyst for the
illegialization of marijuana. By 1931, 29 states
had illegalized the plant. The FBN, Federal Bureau
of Narcotics, comes into being as a government
institution, headed by Harry J. Anslinger.
1937 A.D.
The Uniform State Narcotic Act recently fails. Then,
following "a lurid national propaganda campaign against"
marijuana, congress successfully passes the Marijuana
Tax Act. Marijuana and its possession is criminalized.
