| How To Install CS Skins This is for all you n00bs who don't know how to install skins. I'll go step by step, so you won't get lost. But first, a word of advice, ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR SKINS! Put the default or orignal one in a new folder called CS Back-ups or something. It's crucial because I don't think that you would like downloading them again. Ok, when you download any skin from this site, they will be in a zip file. Because I get all my skins from CSNation, I keep them with their orignial name (e.g. csn-sotd_1100). After unzipping them, you will get a folder with files and usually a readme too. The readmes are useless, they only include the authors, so I usually don't bother with them. Here's an example of the kind of files you may get, w_m4a1, v_m4a1, p_m4a1, m4a1.spr, weapon_m4a1.txt, and some .wavs. The w_ is the file in which it will display how the gun will look on the ground after it has been dropped. The v_ is how the gun will look while you are holding the gun in your hand. The p_ is how the gun will look when another player is holding it in his hand, preferably when you are looking at him. The .spr or sprites are usually HUD Display files and junk like that. I've never found a problem there. The .txt or text files are usually weapon text, they indicate where the crosshair should be and how the gun is positioned. Don't mess with it unless you are a pro. I also don't recommend replacing the orignals though. But if you feel that you can trust the authors fully, then be my guest. Then there are the sound files. These files are the sounds when you shoot and reload, etc. Now where to put them. The w_ and v_ and p_ files goto the cstrike/models directory. It'll ask you if you want to replace the orignal or older files. I'm assuming that you made backups already. Next, the .spr files goto the, you guessed it, cstrike/sprites directory. The .txt files goto the same directory as the sprites. The sound files all goto to the cstrike/sounds/weapons directory. And that's it. If you have a problem, e-mail me. Big ups to CSNation for their wonderful skins, but puffycloud is another story. |
