Here you find greasemonkey scripts for high resolution display of flickr pages that where modified by me.
Now I have three derivatives of the High Res Flickr greasemonkey script. The first replaces the thumbnails in photostream pages, Explore Calender pages and search detail pages with a 500 pixel version. The second is the same script with a different configuration to enhance Set Detail pages. The third script replaces the thumbnails in the group pages with 500 pixel versions. All of the scripts need a correct configuration to prevent side effects on other pages. The is the reason that I had to put the set page part into a differently configured script.
The group pools and search pages work for every monitor and window size while the set and photostream pages need a window size of 1600 pixel or more for a correct display.

The "500 pixel group pools High Res Flickr" greasemonkey script:
I created a modification of the High Res Flickr greasemonkey script to show group pools in 500 pixel images instead of thumbnail size. This script has to be restricted to run only on group pool pages by its configuration. If the original High Res Flickr script is allowed to still work on group pages you don't get correct results. My script works well on group pools but screws up other pages if allowed to run there by changing its configuration. It does not work on Opera.
My modification of the original "High Res Flickr" greasemonkey script:
The original script uses original size images and scales them to 1000 pixels. They can be slow to load and often look bad because the poor rescaler alogrithm used in Firefox introduces jagged lines and destroys textures. The original script works well for photopages in Opera which has a good rescaler algorithm. But most other pages are screwed up if the original configuration is used in Opera.
High Res Flickr adapted to be used together with the 500 pixel group pools script. Disabled on http://flickr.com Large size photos on http://www.flickr.com - You get an error message instead of the photo if large size is not available.
High Res Flickr adapted for use with Opera Uses Original size photos. That can be slow but works always in good quality with Opera.
I'd like to use large size and switch to original size if this is not available. But I don't know enough about javascript programming and html to invent the necessary error handling.
I am currently trying to introduce the group pool features on all other thumbnail pages in flickr but again I am held back by my limited web programming knowledge.
I would appreciate help by more experienced web programmers. You can contact me at Andreas Helke, helke@yahoo.de
Problems
The group pool page script is the only one that just works right regardless of your setup and your monitor size. The other thumbnail page enhancing scripts require a monitor size of at least 1600 pixels to look right. Depending on the combination of scripts and the page configurations you use there will be some pages left unaltered or some pages with screwed up formatting. I have not yet found a configuration that works for every thumbnail page I want to change.
The issues of the photopage scripts have already been mentioned - mainly slow loading and poor quality of the firefox 2 rescaler algorithm (this should be fixed in firefox 3 and already is in opera). If you use the large size instead of original size you have problems with missing images with small originals.
Regardless of those problems I can't imagine any more to use flickr without using all of my high resolution scripts.
