Leadership
BASICS

Leadership
by Helene Ibrahim

What sort of
children   students   employees  &  relatives   would you like to have?
Now, you are sure to come up with a  l-o-n-g  list : - ) Great!
Are your top three - most important - the same as mine?
I want people who are NICE, people I can TRUST and people who are COMPETENT. All in one.
(If they make me laugh sometimes, that's OK too: - )

Now, the second question is:
WHAT SORT OF LEADERSHIP IS MORE LIKELY TO SUCCEED IN GETTING THE LOOKED-FOR RESULTS?!

If you have read the Leadership BASICS carefully, I'm sure you can answer the question. (If you didn't read them yet, please do so to build your own opinion).

Yes, some ways are more efficient than others
. It's the same whether you are a parent, a teacher or a manager.
Some things work. Others don't.

Be harsh - people will obey you when you are there and do what they want when you are gone. No good way to get the best out of people!
Be slack - raise a new generation of hooligans!
Be sometimes harsh and sometimes slack -  and make people really crazy!

If you want to raise people to be NICE, COMPETENT and TRUST-WORTY, it is self-evident that
YOU HAVE TO BE A PERSON WHO IS NICE, COMPETENT and TRUST-WORTHY.

If you are not NICE enough - improve your manners!  Being polite and caring is never wrong. How can you expect people to be nice to you, if you are not nice to them?!
(Age and sex are of no importance here!)
A man can be worth respect for his wisdom and good and firm decisions, his willingness to listen to and seriously concider advice, his care for those who are depending on him. Being nice is in no way contradictory to being firm.* Be NICE
and FIRM! (Goes for women 2, of course.)

If you are not COMPETENT enough, then that is the easiest thing to do something about! If you are reading this, I'm sure you are enough interested in being a good leader to become one : - )

And if you want to trust people, make sure that THEY can first trust YOU!
(Never ever lie to a child, no matter how young, unless it is to ease the pain of a disaster.)

Parents: Go back to the Parents' Quiz.  (You find the link in the Index.) Question 1 and its answers will help you get things right!

Teachers/Managers: The way we ORGANIZE the work...
OUTER CHANGE can INITIATE INNER CHANGE
ORGANIZATION, INFORMATION...
INNER CHANGE can INITIATE OUTER CHANGE

WORKERS  WHO ARE PROUD OF THEIR PROFESSION...

* Be aware that under no circumstances children must  be given the oppurtunity to beat or bully
other children! Those who bully other people have no inner brakes. You must control their behaviour and stop them from hurting or insulting others.
